Hiya, She's been under the hospital for this for the last 3-4 years? Taken every medication under the sun, tried different methods but absolutely nothing is working.
She had obstructive bowel surgery when she was 5 and has always suffered with constipation so thats what they think it might be related to so are trying to get the bowel to function normally and then this should level things out but then I read on/via here the other day that constipation is also another CH factor so now I'm even more confused then I was to begin with!
Her TSH is still 77 isn't it? I would imagine it's because she sleeps deeply and doesn't rouse sufficiently from sleep to know that she hasn't got up and gone to the loo. I certainly remember dreaming I'd got up and gone to the loo - only to find I hadn't! And again, with a TSH of 77 I'm not surprised she's got constipation and that would certainly muddle the signals "down there".
Hey, yes as of Friday it was 77 and still on 125mg daily. I won't increase it until I've been told to. I don't dare!
I've asked for an urgent review so will get a call next week about what to do
Xx
I wore nappies till I was 7 and then had bed wetting issues throughout my life.. been really ill for 10 years with hypothyroidism but through seeing a private specialist been diagnosed with adrenal gland failure .. apparently I was born with adrenal gland fatigue which is hereditary which makes sense as mother bed ridden for 35 years and grandmother for 40 years.. also had fertility/menstrual problems and digestive problems throughout life but tiredness and constant urinating has plagued me.. had adrenal stress profile saliva text done privately which confirmed everything.. I'm now 51 and only just getting to the core of all my illnesses through life..
also had bladder botoxed 3 times by NHS .. didn't help at all long term..
thyroid has 5 hormones and adrenal gland over 10 and then the pituary gland steps into help these work.. so if one is out of sync . then the whole eco system dysfunctions.. it's a mind field..
I've now seeing a metaboloist and I'm gradually getting better .
KNRHOVE65, Hi, your thyroid journey is interesting, and been difficult for you I understand. I am left wondering how you came across a metaboloist? I would be interested in locating one for assessment.
I'm not sure what I can write on the forum.. as I believe some of my replies have been deleted as being controversial..
however other people on here have been treated by this practioner..he is no longer part of the NHS and works privately..he works with natural hormones and I am honestly feeling the benefits in 6 weeks that 25 years of presciption medication has failed to do..
please Google Dr Barry Peatfield.. he has written a book..
My son wet the bed until he was about six. I didn't go to the doctor for ages, because collective wisdom said 'he'll grow out of it! don't worry!' But, by the age of six, I could take it no-longer, and went to the doctor. The doctor said 'low vitamins!' and prescribed vit E, B vits and vit C. My son stopped wetting the bed within a week, and never did it again.
Oh wow! That would be amazing (yet unbelievably frustrating) if thats "all" it came down to! Does your son too have thyroid issues? My daughter has a massive history and trying to get medical teams to join forces and jigsaw it together is hard work (probably like 99% of the people on this forum alone find too!). I just go round in circles half the time!
My son refuses to get tested for thyroid, but he does sometimes display signs of hypo.
Yes, it was incredibly easy. I didn't really think it would work, but it did. The doctor said that, due to vitamin deficiencies, his nerve endings hadn't matured, or something, so that he was unaware that he needed to pee, and didn't wake up. Anyway, it worked, and that's the main thing. Certainly worth a try, I think.
Hi greygoose don't know how I managed to miss this thread when it originally came up. Anyway I have a 13 year old son with hashi's ....currently being undermedicated by specialists.! One of the symptoms they refuse to accept is thyroid related is bedwetting. In the last fortnight we have had one dry night. I think it is because he sleeps so heavily. I've been googling bedwetting and this thread came up on google and the low vitamins response caught my attention. Can you recall what doses you used? My poor lad needs help and this is worth a try.
No, I can't, I'm afraid, my son is nearing 40 now! lol But, on the doctor's advice, I just went to the pharmacy and bought the normal doses they had in stock. Nothing special. But it certainly would help if you could get him optimally treated. Low T3 causes general muscle weakness, and the bladder is controlled by muscles.
How long has he been hypo? Because he could have low Growth Hormone (HGH). And low HGH will lead to muscle wastage, too. Perhaps you could get them to test that?
Thanks he has been hypo for a while I think I started picking up on symptoms a couple of years ago and eventually managed to get GP to do tests which confirmed hashis. I will pursue the HGH and stock up on more vitamins.
Thankyou for your suggestion but already tried it. You name it, we've tried it!
My son never wet the bed but he also has bowel problems and has from birth. I believe he just skimmed through the congenital hypothyroid test as also had really bad jaundice, feeding problems as a baby and has ongoing problems which I think are thyroid related. Thyroid issues are also genetic within my family and also my husbands. Was also diagnosed with a developmental delay. Same with my younger son but he doesn't have the bowel issues. Have they ever prescribed anything for her bowel problems? My son currently takes lactulose but want to get it investigated further and get him a thyroid test. I am going to be asking for a referral to Great Ormand street as our local hospital is rubbish. Did her wetting start after the procedure or was it before? Just wondering if they may have damaged her bladder.
Shes wet all her life and struggled with bowel issues all her life too. so this is the background: She had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia at 6 weeks old which was pretty horrendous. Her diaphragm split which meant her organs went up into her chest. They put them all back in place but as she grew her bowel was getting tangled and tied up around the scar tissue which resulted in the obstructive bowel op at 5yrs old so what they think has happened is the bowel has learnt to not function properly all that time so theyre basically trying to retrain the bowel (or some other old tosh to shut me up lol). She's currently on Cosmocol to manage the constipation and then they want to try her on Desmopressin (again). I dont know why because i know it wont work :/
With all the prodding and poking they cant be sure nothing else will happened again nor if she'll have problems later on down the line...here we are, later on down the line.
Oh my goodness how stressful and awful for you all that sounds really bad. I am betting if her levels thyroid wise get better it will help though. They do seem to fob you off a lot I know. Thing is you don't want her going through loads more investigations after that ordeal anyhow. It does help if you can find a decent doctor that listens also. My son is always constipated also and they just don't take it seriously. Its tough them going through their entire lives dealing with that but her condition def sounds a lot more serious.
No I know and I didn't take it that way it just sounds so stressful cannot imagine going through the worry of that when she was so young. And then for her to have loads more going on. It's just never ending sometimes though I know. You just want her to be healthy and happy and any decent parent would. X
