What do you all think about the thyroid medicine tirosint ? What do yall think about me having a gastric bypass i'm desperate to loss weight my thyroid made me gain 120pds####ineedhelpandanswers#!

I think that from what I have read, Tirosint might be the very best oral levothyroxine-only product available anywhere.

I think having a gastric bypass is unlikely to provide the answer you are looking for.

There is a very considerable number of people who regret having had such operations for numerous reasons.

Putting the elements of your question together: I do not think that it is appropriate to view thyroid hormones as in any way weight loss agents. Even if insufficient thyroid hormone can lead to excess weight, the idea that they in themselves achieve weight loss isn't appropriate.

It is appropriate to get the best dose of thyroid hormone (whatever the make, whether levothyroxine-only, or any other form) for you. Get that right and then you maybe can focus on weight loss - a subject I should not comment on. :-)

My levels are good there is more going on they are investigating it i have an endocrinologist they are now looking at other hormones im just tired of being overweight. Thank u for the reply i appreciate it

Most people here aren't able to get Tirosint as it's not available in the UK. There are a few USA members who are taking it I think.

Re the gastric bypass, I've only seen negative remarks about this. See this thread here for example healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

I can only tell you what worked for me.

It's true in a sense that thyroid drugs are not weight loss drugs per se, but there is anecdotal evidence the thyroid hormone T2 plays a role in weight loss (and T2 can only be found in NDT, not in synthetic T4 or T3 drugs).

However, no thyroid drug in the world made me lose weight on its own. Then, I was diagnosed with insulin resistance. My doctor wanted to put me on prescription drug Metformin (Glucophage). I decided not to take it given the potential side effects. Instead, I looked into natural alternatives and found two sounding interesting. One is called Diabecon and the other Berberine. I have been on them for the past 18 months and I have lost ca 20 kilograms effortlessly during that time. I take them three times daily, about half an hour before each main meal. I am now back to my pre-thyroid weight. I have not been counting calories or exercising like crazy either.

I am not saying this will work for everyone. However, for me, getting my blood sugar and insulin levels under control (and they have gone from borderline high to below midrange; fasting levels that is, on the supplements in question) was the answer for me.

My personal experience is that hypothyroid people (especially those who were hypothyroid for a long time before being diagnosed and prescribed treatment) suffer from a range of other hormonal imbalances (adrenal fatigue, insulin resistance, just to mention a few), and that they all need to be corrected. In my own experience, taking thyroid hormone replacement alone (be it synthetic or natural or a combination thereof) is simply not enough if you've been hypothyroid for a long time.

I'm in the USA and take Tirosint. I find it works very well for me with no side effects. I've tried different kinds of Levo and i know I feel the best on Tirosint. (I do appear to be sensitive to incipient ingredients found in medications. Tirosint contains glycerin, gelatin and water and thankfully, I do not have any sensitivities to those).

Tirosint is a gel cap but it is solid so it can be cut with a razor blade or Xacto knife if the provided dosages are not ideal.

It is very expensive when compared to other brands and generic versions of Levo. I required prior authorization (submitted by my endo) in order for my insurance to cover part of the cost (I pay a copay). I use a discount card from the manufacturer (given to me by my endo) in order to bring the monthly cost down even further. I am very grateful for this medication. Other forms of Levo made me very ill.

I used to run a slimming club years ago. Having a smaller stomach, will automatically reduce the amount you eat, but unless you have got to the state you can't move by yourself, I wouldn't

do it myself. When you have a metabolic disorder, you have to be careful about slimming.

People don't understand why thyroid problems increase weight. The right sort of diet for them

should be based on gearing the metabolism, cutting down the carbs, and reducing sugar foods

which are hidden - like sweetened savour biscuits, creamy yoghurt full fat, full fat milk,

margarine even though advertised for your heart - in fact every food you ever wanted to eat - those boxes of l, bars of choc, the choccy bisuits, the crème caramels - need I go on.

Diet clubs can be useful, such as weightwatchers,but again, they may not know about certain foods, which may be needed in your diet.

I can help you make up a diet if you tell me the foods you hate, and those you love -.

The important thing to do is to write down when you have eaten something - it's because the hunger drive may lead you to nibble, that things get out of hand.

Once you can control your diet with strong motivation to stick to it, you will see results.

How you perceive this diet is important - it's not a diet cutting out food - it's a diet eating more food and increasing your metabolism. When you find nothing has happened after three weeks, though you have stuck to your diet - this is the time when you give into cravings. So during the diet, you can get rewards, so you can have a weak moment every day - one chocolate for eg.

Or alternatively, a banana, or a small piece of cake,

When your weight is still stuck and everyone 'elses has gone down by a pound - this is where you

stick to your diet and wait till next week, when you'll find, the first few pounds may drop off.

If you can exercise - I find winsor pilates ten minute exercise dvd useful - It actually firms your

contours.
