TSH normal but don't feel right

Hi I am new to this page and joined today to get some ideas.

I have hypothyroidism and take 100mcg levothyroxine but I am still so tired all of the time, my eyes are puffy and even my voice sounds tired if that makes sense.

I have just had my TSH levels repeated to he told they are normal- which was a shock co soldering how rubbish I feel.

I have already seen in here some suggestions of a range of bloods and am going to call the doctors again tomorrow !

Ria_Licence A familiar story! Always ask for a print out of your test results and make sure the reference ranges are included, usually in brackets after the result, eg

TSH: 3.5 (0.2-4.2)

You are legally entitled to a copy of your results although your surgery may make a small charge for printing. If you get your latest results, post them on the forum for members to comment.

TSH alone is not enough, ideally you need

TSH

FT4

FT3 (rarely done)

And to see if you have autoimmune thyroid disease thyroid antibodies:

Thyroid Peroxidase antibodies

Thyroglobulin antibodies

The NHS may do TPO but rarely do TG antibodies. You can be negative for TPO but be positive for TG, so it's a shame it's not done routinely.

And if you can get vitamins and minerals tested then that would be very useful:

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

When having blood drawn for a thyroid test, always book the very first appointment of the morning, fast overnight (you can have water), and leave off Levo for 24 hours. This gives the highest possible TSH which is needed when looking for an increase in dose or to avoid a reduction.

It might help to say, "these are the tests recommended by Thyroid U.K.".
