Please can someone advise me. I am a newbie and someone just told me that there should not be any antibodies whatsoever present at any level. Is this correct?

Thyroid antibodies
floraldaisy No, it's not correct. No antibodies whatsoever present at any level in relation to what? Hypothyroidism? Autoimmune thyroid disease?
Who told you that anyway?
Well have antibodies to a certain extent although they can be so low as to be negligible.
Hi seaside Susie Thanks. A nurse told me. The antibodies in question relate to the tpoas specifically.
TPO antibodies will be present in Hashimotos or Graves disease.
TG (Thyroglobulin) antibodies can be present in Hashimotos along with TPO or TG on their own will mean Hashimoto's.
There are a couple of other types of antibodies which can be present in Graves disease.
My TPO antibodies have always been detectable but always under the range of <34 eg
6.6
11.2
But I have neither Hashimoto's nor Graves.
Given that no medical test is perfect, you can expect some tests results not to be zero.
It is well known that physical damage to the thyroid (examples are any form of strangulation or a car seat belt in an accident) can result in a temporary rise in antibodies.
