Hi all
I see that some posters take their waking temp and pulse rate. What is the purpose of this and what do the results signify? Thanks everyone.

Traceyd59,
It is known as a basal body temperature. Temperature rises when you start moving about, even just getting out of bed to get the thermometer so advice is to have the thermometer beside the bed ready to use first thing.
Low BBT and low pulse indicate hypothyroidism &/or adrenal dysfunction. I believe some people monitor their temperature and pulse to see how they are responding to thyroid replacement and adrenal supplements.
A spike in temperature and rapid pulse may indicate hyperthyroidism or over medication.
You could check out Dr Broda Barnes on-line - who has passed away - and there is an Institute in the US named after him. He was a master of diagnosing by symptoms and Dr Barry Durrant-Peatfield studied there when he left the NHS. You could check out the book - the Thyroid and How to Keep it Healthy by Dr Barry .... will answer so many questions for you Taking the temperature and Pulse was commonly used in days of old before blood testing became the norm .....
This might help answer your question (although it doesn't involve basal temperature) :
Thank you Clutter, Marz and Humanbean.
