Help with test results please.

Hi I have outlined my thyroid issues under the post Stroke or Heart attack so I will not trouble everyone further with this.

These are my most recent test results;

10th August 2016

14:25 Non Fasting

Meds; increased from 1 to 1 1/2 tabs (75.0mcg) Thyroxine

Liothyronine 1 x 20microgram tablets

TSH level 0.01 mu/l (0.34 - 5.6)

Speak to GP too low

Notes pt on thyroxin

Free T4 17.8 pmol/L

Normal - No action

Free T3 5.8pmol/L (3.8-6.0)

Normal - No action

Previous Blood test taken prior to increase in Liothyronine

TSH Level 0.03 mu/l (0.34 - 5.6)

speak to GP TSH to low

Notes; review

Free T4 Level 17.8 pmol/L

Normal - No action

new provisional range 7.9 - 20.0 pmol/l

Free T3 Level 5.8 pmol/L (3.8 - 6.0)

Normal - No Action

It would appear that the significant factor is the TSH?

I was first placed on 20mcg of T3 on 15th June 2006 according to my notes on the 8th August 2016 Cancelled Medication Issue?

Any help with the understanding of my test results would be gratefully received.

Thank you.

How do you feel?

Also if you are on T3 then your TSH should be suppressed as the pituitary gland is saying it doesn't need the thyroid to produce T4 as there is sufficient T3 around already. (If you want a more in depth explanation it's here - endocrineweb.com/conditions... )

Thanks bluebug very much.

I am very concerned as my GP and Endo will no longer provide T3 for me. My endo frightened me by telling me I was going to have a stroke if I stayed on these levels of T3/T4 ( I have been taking Liothyronine since 2006 and felt well on them this was increased in 2015 and I felt great) I just want to know that I am OK on these levels? My endo has said the risk was so high I should come off them immediately. I tried but the symptoms were terrible and very scary. I have not been sleeping because of the disruption to my meds and my anxiety about having a stroke.

As I currently take 20mcg Mercury Pharma liothyronine I plan to try to get Tertroxin without prescription and continue to self medicate but just want to know know that I should be OK on these levels.

Thank you again for responding. If anyone knows of a source for prescription free Tertroxin or Mercury Pharma Liothyronine Sodium I would really appreciate the info as I only have a 2 week supply left.

They are not providing T3 for you due to the cost of it to the NHS. They are using your TSH as an excuse to get you off it. The forum is full of posters fighting to get it. They also tell you the other tests they have had e.g. bone scans to prove they are suffering no ill effects from a below range TSH.

In addition if one of your doctors is currently undergoing a fitness to practice re-validation for the GMC they need to make sure your TSH is in range.

Finally I suggest you start a new thread asking posters to PM for sources of your T3 to ensure your request is seen and answered.

Thank you very much bluebug for all this information.

I have been aware of the cost issue for T3 but I am totally shocked at the lengths that the endo is prepared to go to stop me taking it. But as you say it maybe because of a fitness to practice re-validation for the GMC.

Thanks for the suggestion to start a new thread for sources of T3 and I will certainly do this.
