!!i thougth i was crazy for thinking that after the surgery the thyroid will come back!
i had the surgery befor one and a half month.my throat still feels swollen. One woman had the surgery and after nine years it came back with a big nodule. They must left a thyroid tissue.
i was suffering for years with huge nodules and now i feel i can breathe again but everyday i have the fear that it willcome back.
because there must be a reason that the doctors say you have to make ultrasounds after total thyroid removal!
I had thyroidectomy in 2012 and haven't had ultrasounds since. I'm monitored with annual thyroglobulin and thyroglobulin antibody blood tests which would show any thyroid activity and a physical examination of my throat and neck to detect any swelling which is likely to be swelling of a lymph node and might mean the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes.
I've only heard that the thyroid may grow back in Graves patients. If the Graves patient had thyCa then I suppose it is possibility that the thyroid might regrow. Patients with aggressive thyCa are given radio iodine ablatement (RAI) post thyroidectomy to ablate any remaining thyroid cells.
