where iodine go after thyroid removal?

hi again I was wondering what happens to iodine once you remove a thyroid? What absorbs it like a thyroid would? Since some of us no longer has a thyroid do we need iodine in our diets?

Very good question. And I've never found a very good answer.

It's always said that excess iodine is excreted. But, my thyroid is no-longer working, and when I had my iodine tested, it was sky-high, so I'm not doing a very good job excreting it!

It would seem that other organs have iodine receptors, but I don't know very much about that. And, it would seem, neither does anyone else! Because no-one else has responded...
