Iodine dye in ct scan chest / abdomen

Ive just refused iodine dye to enlarge cells for CT scan of chest& abdomen since I had graves, then radio active iodine and am now hypo. It was when radiographer said "you'll feel a hot rush through your system" I thought maybe not?🤔

Should I have taken it?

They then didn't do abdomen, just the chest 😳

Suin I wish I had not let them persuade me when I had one done about 18 months ago. A few hours later I was violently sick and felt as though my head was going in and out of consciousness. There has been a lot of talk about it on this forum. I have Graves, though fairly stable on T4/T3.

nightingale-56 you must still have some thyroid if it affected yous so badly? I react badly to so many things, so I'm very wary. I reacted even more when I came out to a parking ticket in the hospital car park, there were no spaces and myself and others parked on double yellow lines 😕

Suin I had 9/10th's of my thyroid gland taken away, but guess some tiny bit must be still working. It was rather strange that the heat feeling could only be felt all down my left side. It was as though I had a division down the middle and each side was separate. Sorry to hear about the parking ticket. It really is theft charging at hospitals. I no longer can be bothered to ride round and round the car park looking for a space. I drive to a Park and Ride and use my Senior Citizen's Buss Pass. Much less hassle and cheaper even if you do not have a Bus Pass. I react to many medicines also.

Isn't that weird it was only one side🤔 maybe I should do a post on hospital parking? The hospital might pay my fine, it wud have cost them more if I'd missed the appointment over no parking 💡

I'm not sure that the iodine would affect you if you have no gland. When we say that iodine isn't recommended for hypos, we're talking about people who still have a gland.

I had the a scan with iodine dye not long after I was diagnosed - so still had a bit of a thyroid left - and wasn't aware of it having any adverse effects. That 'hot rush through the system' was a bit weird, though!

Thanks, Aw I panicked when I heard iodine and when the girl went away to ask, I tried to check on here and seen someone who it hadn't agreed with 😕 And was relieved I'd asked, but yes I've most likely no thyroid, wonder will they take me back again? Hardly, I was surprised I was even get a ct scan 😳 (The girl said they wudnt give the dye because of my history)

I've had several contrast scans and am due a kidney CT with contrast in the next few weeks, never caused any problems.

I can understand that. Were you asked beforehand, if you were allergic to iodine? They should have asked that.

No, well she asked if I'd any allergies I suppose. she said when we put the dye through you'll feel a rush, that's when I asked what it was. But yes she asked if I'd allergies 👍🏻

I have all over my notes that I am allergic to iodine. Nevertheless when I had a CT scan not long ago, I was asked to "drink this". I asked if it contained iodine, and was told it did, so I refused. I was then told "all you stupid women with so called allergies". I asked if he had read my notes, and he then said there was no point in doing the scan. I got dressed and made a formal "concern" (you cannot complain!). I was told that they had "learned lessons". Humf!
