Ferritin, folate, vitamin B12 and vitamin D results

Please could someone help me with these results?

Ferritin - 14 (15 - 150)

Folate - 2.21 (2.50 - 19.50)

Vitamin B12 - 191 (180 - 900)

Total 25 OH vitamin D - 47.5 (>75 adequate vitamin D)

GP says I am on enough vitamin D - 20mcg.

They are all crazily low! Your Ferritin and Folate and Vit D are below acceptable range. Your B12 is in the doctor's acceptable range - just - but is still too low as it's recommended to be at least 500 and preferably 1000.

I am sure that someone will correct me if I get these wrong, but I believe that Ferritin and Folate should be about half way through the range, Vitamin D should be over 100 and B12 up at the top end or over it for us.

Is your GP doing anything?

Ferritin is deficient, folate is deficient, B12 almost bottom of range and VitD 20mcg is insufficient to raise vitD to optimal 100. I would buy 5,000iu D3 softgel capsules which are inexpensive on Amazon and suppement 5,000iu daily for a couple of months and then reduce to 5,000iu alternate days.

Your GP should do an iron panel to check iron levels because low ferritin can indicate iron anaemia. You should also be prescribed 5mg folic acid to raise folate. Ideally your GP will check intrinsic factor antibodies to rule out pernicious anaemia causing low B12. If PA is ruled out you can supplement methylcobalamin to raise B12.

If you Google "low ferritin symptoms" and "folate deficiency symptoms" you'll probably find a number of the symptoms you are experiencing may be due to low ferritin and folate deficiency. Low B12 symptoms are listed in b12d.org/b12-signs-symptoms...

You could buy iron and low dose folic acid over the counter but your GP should prescribe for you with your levels.
