Hi everyone

at my review on Monday the doctors have said i was bordering hyperactive with TSH levels at 0.13. however i feel fine,

whats puzzling me is if i'm bordering hyper shouldn't i be losing weight faster, i'm still smuggling to lose anything despite being on my pills, on orlistat AND counting calories and exercising, its ridiculous.

There's no history in your Profile so I am assuming you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and are taking levothyroxine.

Do you have a print-out of your latest blood test results with the ranges you can post so that members can respond. A low TSH doesn't mean you are suddenly going hyperactive. The dose of levothyroxine may not be sufficient to make you feel better if your FT4 and FT3 are on the low side of the range.

I note you are taking a product to try to reduce your weight. I do know that this a big concern for many members. However, sometimes when your dose of levo is increased or the addition of a little T3 may increase your metabolism so that weight is reduced.

Leahcollett3,

Low TSH does not mean you are 'bordering hyper' or over medicated. If you were 'bordering hyper' your FT4 and FT3 would be over range. If your GP is using low TSH as an excuse to reduce dose you should protest and insist that FT4 should be tested to see whether you are over medicated first. Some patients need low TSH to feel well. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.

My TSH is 0.01 but FT4 and FT3 are mid range so I am nowhere near being over medicated.

Leahcollett3,

Low TSH doesn't mean you are optimally dosed. Blue Horizon's Thyroid Plus 3 blood test includes TSH, FT4 and FT3 thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

"If you also take levothyroxine (such as Synthroid), do not take it within 4 hours before or 4 hours after you take orlistat".

my consultant has said that it is ok to take levothyroixine in the morning then have breakfast and take orlistat, i questioned him about the 4 hours and he said no,

The issue is that because orlistat works by blocking enzymes in the gut, It may also stop the Levothyroxine from being absorbed properly. Most people on this forum leave at least an hour, some much more, before consuming anything except water, in particular anything with milk in, because the calcium in the milk can apparently stop the Levothyroxine from being absorbed. If you aren't absorbing your Levothyroxine properly you will probably be effectively underdosed, which will make it impossible for you to lose weight. If you took your Levothyroxine the morning before your latest blood test, then the TSH result will be artificially low.

Go by how you feel not numbers. Your GP may want to titrate your meds by the TSH test but if you feel OK then use any method you can to make your GP back down.
