Lindsayf,

Make sure you have good vitamin D levels. The knee and hip joint pain I had was due to vitamin D deficiency and completely cleared once deficiency was corrected.

Hi I already take Vit D. I feel off my horse years and years ago and injured my knee cartilage. Just wondered if I could take something to help

Could you tell us what dosage you needed Clutter? Also is it essential to add K2 or not?..... Help would be appreciated.

Marfit74,

How much you need depends on how low your vitD level is. Mine was <10 so I was prescribed loading doses of 40,000iu x 14 days followed by 2,000iu daily. I didn't add K2.

I have taken glucosamine, yes, with condro... can't remember the name. I think it helped my hip joint enormously. But, it does all depend what is wrong with your knee.

No reason why you shouldn't try it. But, make sure to take it well away from your thyroid hormone replacement, at least two hours. :)

chondroitin - it's supposed to help with suppleness in the tendons by helping to draw moisture in - but I haven't actually researched the evidence but I also use glucosamine and chondroitin and found it has helped me with ankles turning over and being very susceptible to sprains.

Well, that sounds good! Wish I'd known that 50 years ago! :)

My husband got a lot of relief for bad knees from fish oil capsules. Since they contained vitamin A and vitamin D as part of the fish oil it may have been any one of the constituents or the combination of all three which helped him.

Glucosamine is a waste of time, it does nothing. I too have dodgy knees and would appreciate any other advice.

Hi Lindsay, For knee joints, soak your legs in a bath of Epsom Salts about 4 lbs, as hot as you can stand, stay in the water till it cools. Then dry your legs, rub legs from top to toes, especially knee joints with Peanut Oil, dry with Kitchen Paper, do this before bedtime, wear old Pjs to bed do it every night till pain goes.
