New Lab Work, will you take a look? Seems normal.

Hello, I finally got my doc to order all the labs recommended to me by people on this site. I have several cysts on my thyroid that caused painful swelling for a time. I will get the results of my Uptake Scan tomorrow. I also suffer hair loss, fatigue and am always shivering cold. So far this is my third time getting normal blood test results, this my most comprehensive panel yet. My doc had suspected Hashimotos. I will attach photos of lab results.

One thing that stands out me is that your ferritin seems too low, this can cause fatigue. I'm sure others will comment on your other results x

Lyssablue,

Image is too small for me to be able to read results.

If you'd like to enlarge it or manually type in your thyroid, ferritin, vitD, B12 and folate results I'm happy to comment.

I've tried on my tablet and my main PC and I can't read them either, they're far too small.

Sorry about that guys!

Iron total 53 Range 40-190

Iron binding capacity 340 Range 250-450, % Saturation 16 Range 11-50%

Thyroglobulin Antibodies ,<1 Range < or =1

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies <1 Range <9

Ferritin 36 Range 10-154

T4, Free 1.0 Range 0.8-1.8

T3, Free 3.1 Range 2.3-4.2

(I asked them to order both total and free measurements and they did not)

TSH 1.25 range 0.4-4.5

Vitamin B12 =517 Range 200-1100

Folate,Serum =22.5 Range 5.5ng/mL (this is confusing??)

Vitamin D Total = 59 Range 18-72

Vitamin D3 = 59

Vitamin D2 = <8

Lab results have this written below Vit D results;

Vitamin D3, indicates both indogenous production and supplementation. Vitamin D2 is an indicator od exogenous sources, such as diet or supplementation. Interpretation and therapy are based on the measurement Vitamin D Total

It doesn't matter that they didn't do the Totals, because they don't give you any useful information. They're just a waste of money. :)

Antibodies appear to be negative (I've not seen them done like that before, it's usually TPO <34 and TG <115)

Ferritin 36 Range 10-154 - this is far too low. Half way through range is generally recommended and it needs to be at least 70 for thyroid hormone to work properly. I've seen it said that for females 100-130 is best. Supplementation is needed. If you take iron tablets then take each one with 1000mg Vit C to aid absorption and help prevent constipation. Take 4 hours away from thyroid meds and other supplements and meds.

Other iron tests

Iron total 53 Range 40-190

Iron binding capacity 340 Range 250-450,

% Saturation 16 Range 11-50%

I can't interpret them but you can check them here - labtestsonline.org.uk/under...

Vitamin B12 =517 Range 200-1100 - Anything under 500 can cause neurological problems so at least you are over that. However, it's recommended that B12 should be at the very top of it's range, 900-1000 quoted when top of range is lower than yours. You could get some Solgar or Jarrows sublingual methylcobalamin 1000mcg and take 1 daily as a bit of a boost. When taking B12 we should also take a B Complex to balance the B Vits. Avoid cheap supermarket, Boots and Holland and Barrett own brand, they contain cheap ingredients often of the wrong form.

Folate,Serum =22.5 Range 5.5ng/mL (this is confusing??) - I don't understand this either. Does it say <5.5ng/ml? Folate is recommended to be at least half way through it's range.

Vitamin D Total = 59 Range 18-72 - recommended level is 100-150nmol/L. You could get some D3 5000iu and take 1 daily throughout the winter. Retest in the Spring and if you've reached the recommended level reduce to 5000iu alternate days as a maintenance dose.

When taking D3 we also need it's important co-factors mentioned here vitamindcouncil.org/about-v...

Vit D aids absorption of calcium from food and K2 directs the calcium to bones and teeth rather than arteries and soft tissues. Take D3 4 hours away from thyroid meds.

Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening naturalnews.com/046401_magn...

Check the other important co-factors needed.

TSH 1.25 range 0.4-4.5

T4, Free 1.0 Range 0.8-1.8 - 20% through range

T3, Free 3.1 Range 2.3-4.2

- 42% through range

Have you had a diagnosis of hypothyroidism? If not ask your doctor to consider secondary (or central) hypothyroidism where the problem isn't with the thyroid but with the pituitary or hypothalmus (you can find information by doing a search on Google). This can be the diagnosis when both TSH and FT4 are low thyroid.org/thyroid-functio...

I haven't read all your previous posts so don't know if I am repeating some information already given.

Thank you so very much for this post. No I haven't been given this information before, I've ever had a good comprehensive lab panel before this one, there was always a lot missing. And my posts brought more questions than answers from people on here. Thankfully I was able to get better labs this time because of it. I have an appt tomorrow and will ask about the pituitary or hypothalamus. I looked at this and saw all normal and went, argh! I don't want there to be a problem but when there is and you have no info to tell you WHY, it's tough! Looking at my lab report, info is written in another area that I didn't see before... looks like my FOLATE is 22.5 and normal range is >5.4 so that looks good.

Yes, in that case folate should be fine. I don't like that way of doing it, my simple brain prefers proper ranges :D

I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow. It might be an idea for you to read up on secondary hypothyroidism tonight, just in case it gets dismissed out of hand. At least you will have some information ie low TSH and FT4 point to secondary hypothyroidism and will they please look into it further.

Come back and let us know how it goes :)

I just got a call from my doctor's assistant. I was told my lab results and scan came back normal and then "click" they hung up. So I cancelled my appointment and I'm seeking out a new doctor. I have had no opportunity to talk to my doctor or ask any questions since I found out I had cysts via an email from the office after my ultrasound, they've been evasive and dismissive. I'm quite livid in regard to the poor quality of care. Hopefully I can find a doctor that will want to find answers. For now, thanks to you I have some supplements to try that may help me feel better and I'm grateful for that. I will certainly let you all know how it goes along this crazy journey :)

Oh, how rude! I think there must be a special 'Rude School' where they train them.

Good luck in your search for a decent doctor.
