Hi rob2001, welcome to the forum.

I don't know about hives, but cramps can be due to nutritional deficiencies. Have you had your vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested?

Welcome to our forum, and I am assuming you've been diagnosed as being hypothyroid as you say you are on 125mcg of levothyroxine.

Due to having hives, etc. I suggest you take one anti-histamine tablet before your next dose of Mercury Pharma levothyroxine, just in case you have a reaction to the fillers/binders in it. That's not impossible as we are all so different.

You may not be on sufficient hormones and although you say you got better you are still having muscle/joint pain (this is a common symptom when hypothyroid) and should be alleviated when dose is at a proper level i.e. that you feel well with no symptoms - not when GP is happy your bloods are anywhere in range - the aim is a TSH of 1 or lower.. This is a link re hives/hypothyroidism:

Some hints to get the best out of your blood tests:-

1. Always get the very earliest appointment and fasting (you can drink water).

2. Allow 24 hours between your last dose and the test and take afterwards.

3. Ask doctor to test TSH, T3, T4, Free T4, Free T3, and antibodies. Also Vitamin B11, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate and get a print-out of your results with the ranges every time you get a test, for your own records, and so you can post if you have a query. If GP wont do all of these (some labs don't if TSH is in range) you can have them through a Private blood test and we have recommended labs.

Rob001,

Try taking an antihistamine an hour before you take Levothyroxine. If Hives clears up it is likely due to one of the fillers in Mercury Pharma Levothyroxine upsetting you and you should ask your pharmacist to dispense one of the other three generic makes available ie Actavis (also known as Almus), Wockhardt and Teva.

If you post your recent thyroid results with the ranges (the figures in brackets after the results) members will advise whether you are optimally dosed.

Food allergies? Maybe a filler in the supposedly inert ingredients in a thyroid med? I break out with corn or milk, but know other people who break out in his bed with gluten, rice, nightshade vegetables (tomato. Eggplant, peppers, potatoes), sugar, coffee, and/or soya.

I have some medications compounded to avoid allergic ingredients and omit them from.my diet.

Thyroid speeds metabolism and can speed breakouts. Also, folate deficiency can promote increased histamine.
