I've had a stinking cold since Friday.... I am certainly hitting the sudafeb, beechams powders, nasal sprays and brandy. None of it appears to have interfered with my ndt.....

The brandy doesnt help the cold, but i no longer care :-)

haha, hope you're feeling better soon.

I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to colds so I'll take anything to relive the symptoms. Though I'd better check it was ok first :-)

Sudafed and Beecham's both come up with the same information on Drugs.com interaction checker

drugs.com/interactions-chec...

I have no idea how reliable the information is.

Might be reliable - for those in the USA!

Note that page mentions acetaminophen - which we in the UK would call paracetamol.

See my response further down. :-)

Try zinc, mushroom capsules, vitamins C and D to boost your immune function. And chicken soup!

The active ingredient in sudafed 'phenylephrine' is not to be taken with any thyroid medication unfortunately. It can cause increased heart rate, palpitations etc.. I posted a similar question recently, your best bet is saline nose spray, eucalyptus, lavender etc..

Be very careful!

The various products branded Sudafed in the UK include one or more of the following active ingredients:

Paracetamol

Caffeine

Phenylephrine

Xylometazoline hydrochloride

Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride

Products branded Sudafed in other countries might well have entirely different active ingredients. It is essential that each person checks the specific product they are thinking of taking and does not make any assumptions.

Sorry - but if it is Beechams in the UK, you can check for yourselves here:

Well yes, it does increase my heart rate and my bp goes up a bit too, but compared with not taking it, i would rather tolerate the slightly raised heart rate. I'm not up to rushing about and am currently sat down relaxing because of the cold.

If I was hyperthyroid i would avoid the phenylephidrine, but as i'm normal, thanks to my 3 grains of ndt, its really not a problem.
