Opinions on my latest results please..

My latest blood results have come back as FT4 15 (9-25) and TSH 4.9 (0.3-5) and have been deemed 'normal'

Considering that my endo was adamant that he wanted my TSH level to be at, or below 1, I find it very odd that no recommendation of an increase in medication has been suggested.

I continue to have palpitations, constant headaches, cramps, and countless other symptoms, and am considering making a formal complaint with regards to the lack of care.

Should I increase the levo dose myself, and how much by? To say I am fed up of all of this, is a massive understatement.

Any suggestions greatly received..

Thank you..

P.s.. I was diagnosed hyperthyroid in 2009, had radio-iodine in Jan 2013 and have been on Levothyroxine since then. I have never been told I have anything other than acquired hypothyroidism with goiter and nodules, even though T.P.O. antibodies came back at 693..(just a brief little back story..)

Doctors don't know the difference between 'normal' for patients who haven't been diagnosed and 'normal' for a hypothyroid patient who is or should be on levothyroxine.

We just have to accept that they appear to be the least knowledgeable about how we, the patient, feels when not on thyroid hormones which make us feel well and symptom free.

To achieve 'normality' our TSH has to be around 1 or lower. FT4 and FT3 towards the upper part of the range. If you can afford to get a private FT3 and FT4 from a recommended lab I'd get one and take care of my own thyroid health.

The fact that you had RAI my personal opinion is that patients who have no thyroid gland should always have the addition of T3 to their T4. That's because I have a thyroid gland and only felt an improvement when some T3 was added.

If your consultant is happy to send a patient away whose TSH 4.9 and who is on treatment he should look for another job - away from patients altogether.

As you've been treated since 2009 and seem no further forward in health, you should treat yourself and members will help who have done so and are thankful.

An FT4 and FT3 would be helpful if you self-medicate (or partly if GP prescribes levo as you'd need to source your own). Usually, with T4 (levothyroxine) increases are by 25mcg every six weeks. If you decide to add some T3 by 1/4 every one or two weeks. Take your pulse/temp before your begin (and I am not medically qualified and had undiagnosed/unmedicated hypothyroidism). Also be aware of your symptoms, i.e. are they improving - and how you feel.

I wouldn't employ a consultant like that even to empty the bins. So I guess he'll have to stay in his current position. :-(

I was diagnosed and started treatment with a TSH of almost exactly that! Only just over range.

Leaving chelle1 there is a disgrace.

The newer TSH range is 0-3 or even 0-2.5 in some places. Ideally it should be around 1. Yours is too high and you should be asking why.
