Depends on the range. Every lab has its own range, so it's important to know.

But, as a general rule, doctors know nothing about it! You probably made him very uncomfortable, asking for information like that! lol

For antibody tests, the ranges are particularly capricious - varying wildly. You really cannot take a guess at all - not that guessing is ever encouraged but is sometimes understandable.

Lucieb01,

For some peculiar reason UK doctors prefer the term thyroiditis or autoimmune thyroiditis to Hashimoto's.

Thyroid peroxidase antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

Just from your antibodies I would say you definitely have Hashimoto's! Your doctor is ignoring it most likely because they feel that the treatment isn't any different from regular hypothyroidism so why bother discussing it. He is so WRONG! You need to get the book; HASHIMOTO'S- The Root Cause by Wentz (I believe). It is full of information to help you understand your disease. It is an autoimmune disease and it needs to be managed with meds and diet.you can also look at the book STTM-Stop the Thyroid Maddness, again, full of information! There is also a Facebook group called FTPO-thyroid, hashimoto's issues. Google it and be sure to put Facebook in the search, they are a wonderful group that can help you learn and understand what to do! It is a closed group so you have to ask to join but as soon as they see you are not a MLM scammer they will approve your request. good luck!
