Newbie after some advice...

Hi.

I am currently taking 75mg Levothyroxine and recently had my bloods retested for the first time since starting it.

I had a call with the GP who stated my Vit d level was low so would prescribe me tablets.

I have since got hold of a copy of my results and was horrified to see he has ignored the fact that B12, ferritin and folate are all right at the bottom of the range, and on 2 separate parts there are comments about non specific marker of pernicious anaemia.

Peroxidase antibody levels are 1158 and I also tested positive for parietal cell antibodies,

Any advice on what i should go back to the GP and ask for?

Many thanks in advance.

Thyroid peroxidase antibodies are positive for autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

You have your answer in that your GP acted as if nothing was wrong with your other vitamin levels. That certainly is not the case, as you stated them as being in the bottom of their respective range.

Your GP has proven he is pretty much clueless.

Such is status quo for doctors of conventional medicine who know little about the endocrine system. They write a prescription and carry on as usual--while you suffer!

My advice, quite seriously: see a Naturopath. Their branch of medicine is exactly what you need. Good nutrition is key to getting better. You have to be able to make use of the thyroid supplementation and get all vitamins, minerals, and hormones up to par. Then you'll be making the most of your appropriate thyroid hormone replacement.
