I used to - now I just cannot get comfy due to cancer blocking airway a little, but getting better. Why I am up at 3am my time in USA.

For you - MELATONIN. A hormone that helps you sleep. I started with 2 mcg half hr before bed and it worked, go into deep sleep. To keep me there, I used lavender oil on bedding (but I did not touch it, estrogenic and I am dealing w breast cancer). The lavender helps you feel relaxed and be ready for melatonin to take over.

I can take 6 mcg melatonin, but people need to work up to what is comfortable for them, not groggy and dull in the morning.

Cancer patients in pain also take melatonin to keep them asleep, 10 and 20 mcg prescribed by naturopathic doctors. To give the idea on levels.

POSSIBLY it is when you are taking your thyroid supplementation. I read thyroid kicks in between 4am and 8am. So some take before bed so it is ready to go. Some take at 4am and it works.

My question on this one is what if someone goes to bed at 7pm and wants to sleep 10 hours? To sleep until 5am. Like my sister : ) But will their thyroid supplementation kick in at 3am?

Maybe tweaking when to take that. And other supplements that add energy - like B vitamins, B12 esp.

Hiya greygoose, no they havnt does the NHS do that?

The NHS only does an 8 am serum cortisol test - which is rather unreliable, and only tells you part of the story.

What you need is the 24 hour saliva cortisol test, but you'd have to do that privately.

Still, ask your doctor for the serum test, it's a start, and will give you a bit of an idea what's going on. :)

Order a 4 point saliva test through Genova Diagnostics if readings are abnormal you will treat with Adaptogens- again self funded as sadly NHS or indeed private Endos don't acknowledge or treat Adrenal Fatigue

Hi

I was advised by a Nutritionist to eat a small amount of protein before going to bed as the waking around 3.00am. can be due to low blood sugar. I now do this and it does help.
