What's happening!!!

Just been diagnosed and don't understand what's going on!! I had diarrhoea,hair loss,itching,breathlessness! My t4 is 50 something! So it's over active! I've been given 20mg carbimazole and have to go for more blood tests and make appointment to see a specialist. At the moment I just feel exhausted 😢

Welcome to the forum, Elizabeth2eames.

You have become hyperthyroid (over active thyroid). Carbimazole is an anti-thyroid drug and will slow down production of your thyroid hormones FT4 which ideally will be < 22.0. Carbimazole dose may need adjusting every few weeks in response to FT4 level changing. Many hyperthyroid patients enjoy remission 12-18 months after taking Carbimazole although it is permanent in less than 50% of patients positive for Graves antibodies. Ask your endocrinologist to test antibodies to see whether your hyperthyroidism is caused by autoimmune Graves Disease.

You should probably be having thyroid tests every 4 weeks with your GP until you see the specialist in January.

Hi clutter,I forgot to say I've lost 3 1/2 stone!! I'm on my 3rd day of tablets and I'm really dizzy!!?? I will ring the doctor and ask if it's the medication. What do you think?

Weight loss is a symptom of hyperthyroidism. Check the patient information leaflet which comes with the Carbimazole to see whether dizziness is a typical adverse effect.

Good,I've read that it can take a few weeks to improve! I've got an appointment with doc about the dizziness,this morning,so I will let you know.

Seen doc about dizziness,he says it's not the meds,it's the thyroid! I've looked up symptoms and can't find dizziness anywhere!!??
