Hello,

I've had Hashimotos for years and used to live in the USA where my thyroid was really well managed but have recently moved back home to Scotland postpartum and my thyroid is out of control!!!!! Same old story, GP as much use as a handbrake in a canoe, knows nothing about thyroid etc and I can barely get out of my bed, covered in hives, face and eyes swollen for five months know, swollen joints and mega fatigue. Need doctor that will prescribe ndt. Willing to pay whatever it costs, please help!!!!

Thank you so much,

Swolleneyes,

Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk for a list of member recommended endos. You should check with their offices whether they prescribe NDT before booking a consultation.

Have you considered buying NDT online and self medicating?

Thank you I will email her. Also looking for any personal experience of a Endo that prescribed it in Scotland. I wouldn't buy online as I am breastfeeding and would only take a medication that I know where its coning from and what's in it exactly.

Swolleneyes,

What difference does it make whether a Scottish pharmacy imports NDT from the manufacturer or distributor or you buy it from an online pharmacy who bought from the manufacturer or distributor?

Details of ingredients of various brands are in this link stopthethyroidmadness.com/a...

Thank you, I appreciate it. I wouldn't be comfortable self medicating so still looking for an Endo that will prescribe it.

Hi private message me and I can give you the name/address of a private GP in Glasgow willing to prescribe NDT then you need to send off your private prescription to a pharmacy in England to get prescription, this process is expensive, however, please note that I have ordered several brands of NDT online, they are cheaper, though I have ALWAYS went severely Hypo as I believe they are fake, all purchased from several recommended online sites.

Hi Gillsy,

I'm an American with the same issue; the NHS doctor knows nothing about Armour, NDT and put me on linothyroine; she even said that my symptoms (I have been on thyroid medication for over a decade and have thoroughly researched it) of fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, hair loss, and periods run amuck are highly unusual for hypothyroid. She now wants to do a CBS, even though that was done in November 2017 and was fine. I have never felt this way on Armour and levothyroxine was just poison to my body. I also have Coeliac, which complicates things a little. I asked about Named Patient and her reply was that they don't do that there.I am shocked that she refused to refer me to an endo and even wanted to keep my medication the same. Her incompetence is appalling and I need to find someone who will prescribe me the Armour, on which I felt fantastic. Do you know of anyone in the Glasgow area that I could go to? Thanks!

Hi sorry to hear about your problems it can be a nightmare. My GP will not prescribe NDT he referred me to several NHS endo's none of them will prescribe NDT. I was prescribed T3 however felt awful on it. I got a private prescription from a private GP in Glasgow gpmatters.com I paid £60 for 15 min consult this included a prescription for armour. I tried a couple of pharmacies one London one in Guernsey I felt a little better. Nothing like the first time I tried armour a couple of years ago when they were reasonably priced from pharmacy 4 U. Alas after a lot of hassle, time and effort I decided to try the recommended vitamin route ferritin, folate, vit D, magnesium etc with 125mg levo and I generally feel alright. I also discovered Mercury pharma levo does not agree with me, severe abdominal bloating and other symptoms. Actavis and Wockart levo are much better for me. I keep trying to improve my situation. Please feel free to ask any questions, not sure if I've been helpful or not? I hope you feel better soon. Regards Gillsy
