Following advice on one of my posts, I sent an email to my doctor for the history of my thyroid test results. Got an appointment for the thyroid test, and today saw my doctor The doctor said my results are normal and I don't need the thyroxine changed and she doesn't think my symptoms are related to my thyroid and she will look into other causes. I was told to book an ECG, and a BNP blood test and she gave me some Citalopram and will see me in two weeks when she comes back from holiday, apparently if the new medication is effective then my amitriptline, (taken to stop constant nightmares) will be stopped as the two together could cause heart problems. My results on the thryoid test are: -
T4 9.7
TSH 2.92
Are they acceptable? Thank you for your help, it is much appreciated
You are under medicated. If your GP would increase dose you probably wouldn't need the other tests and Citalopram as symptoms would improve.
The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status. For most patients that will be when TSH is 1.0 or lower with FT4 in the upper range. FT4 needs to be in the upper range in order that sufficient T3 is converted. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your GP.
Perhaps you could see another GP while yours is away.
Thank you I shall certainly try to see another doctor and also go to the Thyroid support meetings in a nearby area. And I will email Louise for a copy of the Pulse article, but I don't hold out much hope that my doctor would read it, as nothing was said about the email I sent referring to the test results I wanted, and today in effect she said I was talking about too many of my symptoms. The doctors are limited to 10 minutes per appointment, so I understood. Especially on seeing the amount of people walking in and out of the surgery while I was waiting downstairs (lift out of order for 8 weeks) so doctors have to go downstairs, and hope that a room is available somewhere. I have previously seen patients given injections and have blood taken in the cold hallway.
