Hi thankyou for taking the time to read my post. I have a goiter lump on my thyroid, I have had a ultrasound scan and the lady said I have one large nodule on the left side and several on my right, I have lots of symptoms but docs always say I'm not out of range on my bloods. I am sure I have underactive thyroid. I also have very low b12 which I get injections every 8 weeks for + vit d. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what to expect at this appointment, will they do any other tests etc. my left side of neck is getting more painfull, i.e not really bad but more like a pulling sensation.

Focus on getting a clear explanation as to the cause of the swelling of your thyroid. The pain you feel is the pressure caused by the swelling. It is possible the swelling (goiter) is caused by nutritional deficiencies. If so, after correction, the swelling will eventually wane.

Sometimes, the swelling can eventually hinder the thyroid from functioning properly. Even though the labs indicate (as you wrote) that your thyroid function is good... the Endo will likely recheck with more specific blood work.

Please think positive! Thyroid nodules are very common and the vast majority of thyroid nodules are harmless.

Please keep us informed as to how you're doing. There are a lot of very experienced and knowledgeable people here to help you.

Big hugs to you!

Get a copy of the blood results from your GP - they are free and they have to give them to you, then post the results on here for brilliant further advice. It is not uncommon for the GP to say your are in range when in fact you are not.

I had a large goitre mainly because the GP failed to recognise that I had a thyroid problem which went on for at least 18 months before I was finally diagnosed (by a different GP). I had an ultrasound that showed nodules and two biopsies (the Endo did not believe the first!) but all was clear and my goitre has entirely gone now. The biopsies are not painful and put my mind at rest.

Like many of us here, we have learned to take control of our own health and not rely on the doctors. By getting your results and looking up information on the web, and asking for advice here, you will gain enough knowledge to take control and do the best for your body. I hope the Endo can give you some answers and the way forward becomes clear. Hug.

It's possible a fine needle aspiration to biopsy the large nodule will be done at your appointment. That is what happened with me. It isn't painful, just a little uncomfortable although I did find my neck hurt a bit for a few days afterwards. Hopefully the biopsy will give you the all clear, most nodules are benign.
