Is this tinnitus?

Does anyone else "hear" their pulse? It's a very peculiar sensation, and I just wondered what might be the cause. My blood pressure is normal and as far as I know I don't have any heart problems. I am hypothyroid and taking Levothyroxine, and am waiting for a previous post with my blood results to be approved.

Thank you, interesting information. It's definitely my blood flow I'm hearing. Can be attributed to hyperthyroidism, but I'm hypothyroid! Ah well another thing to add to the list for my next GP appointment!

I have pulsatile tinnitus as well as the ordinary tinnitus. Drives me nuts. There are lots of reasons why people develop pulsatile tinnitus. Depending on the cause it might be possible to do something to reduce it or eliminate it. But somehow I have a feeling you might have a hard time persuading the NHS to do anything about it. (I'm a dyed-in-the-wool pessimist in connection with the NHS.)

One thing I found that helps is using a "tinnitus relaxer". I only use mine at bedtime to help me get to sleep but there is no reason why it can't be used at other times too.

I use a tinnitus relaxer with pillow speakers so the noise doesn't disturb my husband.

Before I spent much money I did try a "proof of concept" experiment.

I downloaded some free MP3 files off the internet to play on an old MP3 player I already owned and bought a tiny speaker to plug into it. I also created some sound files of my own using this website :

The experiment showed that I did get benefit but it wasn't an ideal setup. So I bought a dedicated tinnitus relaxer and pillow speakers. Works for me!

Thank you for all the information 😁 It doesn't bother me too much really, and at night I find the rhythm quite soothing. I'm very lucky that I don't have anything more than a vague hissing the rest of the time.

Pulsatile tinnitus is also a symptom of hypothyroidism but may be caused by other things too. I have an appointment with an ENT consultant in a couple of weeks so will report back. Given that the cause may not be due to thyroid it may be an idea to discuss with your GP.

Hi jackiez, I came across your post. What you would like you have is pulsatile tinnitus.... I have it too have you had any diagnostic tests done as if yet?
