unsure on what to do..

so ive been on 50mcg for a while now - 2 weeks ago my bloodys were 2.96 reduced down from 5.8 back in begining of august. i feel that because im still tired, constipated, not losing weight etc, i want to increase my dosage to 100mcg ( which ive been taking every other day)

does anyone know the timescale it can take for my tsh level to reduce further into the 1-2 range? on 50mcg?

my doctors told me to stay at thew same dosage of 50mcg a day because of my tsh level.

i do understand that to optimise our levels should be around 1-2. i tried to get the t3 tested but the hospital didn't do it so this is all i have to go on until i can afford private testing.

shall i self increase my dosage?

I'm sorry, but if you take 50 mcg one day, and 100 mcg the next, that comes out as 75 mcg daily. Why not take 75 mcg daily? Is that what you meant?

However, if you're on 50 mcg daily, jumping to 100 is too much of a jump. increases should only be by 25 mcg every six weeks.

You have some very ignorant doctors, there. Your TSH is too high. When you are on thyroid hormone replacement, it should be one or under. And, once you get it to one, they should not be dosing by TSH only. They should at least test your FT4. Is it not possible to find a more enlightened doctor? I know we have to kiss a lot of frogs before we find a prince, but who wants to stick with a frog? Sometimes we have to make the effort to find better.

This time it wasn't the Dr. The Dr actually asked for t3 and t4 but the hospital wouldn't test for it. So it would be the same anywhere in Coventry as all blood gets sent to our hospital for testing. I only have 50mcg tablets.. so do people cut them in half? Am I ok taking 100 1 day and 50 the next or am I better cutting the tablet up?

I cut mine with a cutter I got for a couple of pounds from the chemist. I don't think it matters though if you take 100 one day and 50 the next.

No, it doesn't really matter with T4. It's a storage hormone.

Leah, I wasn't referring to the fact that the hospital didn't do T4 and T3, but the fact that your doctors think it's ok to stay on 50 mcg levo with a TSH of over two. That isn't alright at all. :(

Good for you! But, do do some reading first, so that you have a strong argument. :)
