In the early 1990s I believe I was hyperthyroid, but never offered any tests. Fifteen years later and I was going hypothyroid and blood tests then and since have become far more common, often to our dismay when signs and symptoms appear to be ignored as well as ranges and trends from the blood tests. Nevertheless, you should ask for another test, and may have to join the rest of us, with regular trips to the surgery.
In the 1990s I had:
Heat intolerance
Orthostatic hypotension
Unstable angina
Difficulty swallowing
Pulse remained low, as I was still fit
When hyper returned (and was tested for) in 2012 I had:
High pulse rate
Hoarseness
More frequent bowel movements
Upper arm weakness
The consequences of untreated hyper can be not at all good for you, so please do get checked.
Hi Chris, yes, those symptoms all point to hyperthyroidism. How is your heartrate? The usual treatment is carbimazole or propylthiouracil and/or beta blockers. Ask for a print of your last tests. The TSH will probably be very low (close to zero) and FT4 possibly over range and they may have avoided the FT3 test as it can be very decisive.
