Supplements and Adrenal Support - advice needed please

Hi

Been prescribed a low dose of thyroxine but reluctant to take it because I didn't know what I was taking and what it would do for me despite have nearly all of the symptoms of Hypothyroidism. Have now realised it's inevitable but not before I am much better informed.

I am now reading through Dr Peatfield's book getting ready to deal with this. I have experienced, in the past very high stress levels (having a baby, studying, starting a new job, looking after older son AND moving house during the same period!). Ugh! My stress levels were so bad that I was prescribed sertraline which I took for about a year. Never again will I take anything without my own research and feeling reasonably secure in my understanding.

I have ordered some adrenal support as recommended in Dr Peatfield's book... before I start the thyroxine. Do you know if it's okay to take all the vitamins and supplements at the same time?

Also, I have lost so much of my hair. Is it likely I will lose more?

Thanks genuinely in advance. The advice here is incredible.

Misha008,

For maximum absorption Levothyroxine should be taken with water 1 hour before or 2 hours after food and drink, 2 hours away from other medication and supplements, and 4 hours away from calcium, iron, vitamin D supplements and oestrogen.

It takes 7-10 days for Levothyroxine to be absorbed before it starts working and it will take up to six weeks to feel the full impact of the dose.

You should have a follow up thyroid test 6-8 weeks after starting Levothyroxine. Arrange an early morning and fasting (water only) blood draw when TSH is highest, and take Levothyroxine after your blood draw.

Most people will find symptoms resolve after their TSH drops to around 1.0 with FT4 in the upper range but symptoms can lag a couple of months behind good biochemistry.
