There is a difference between hypothyroidism where there is a deficiency of thyroid hormone, and thyroid hormone resistance.
The same amount of thyroid hormone is found circulating for (within the 'normal' reference range) that would maintain normal metabolism in cells in a healthy person. But due to the resistance to the thyroid hormone the cells are not maintained adequately.
Those people [with thyroid hormone resistance] need a much higher dosage of hormones. This falls in line with the previous pre 1970's principle of raising the dose until a person actually feels normal. This dosage now would cause most endocrinologists to scream, “You’re going to die of heart attack if you don’t get off that!"
The easier self help solution is to 'flip' the biochemistry using a ketogenic diet and the use of an L-Arginine compound such as Ark1 The preferred diet is Ketogenic, paleo will often not do it . Using this approach the cells are running on a different energy mechanism and the Ark1 is increasing oxygen and blood delivery to the energy starved cells.
While not a total solution it will help improve utilisation of the thyroid hormone that you have in circulation.
