Immune system?

I am just recovering from pneumonia. It's the second time this year. No cough or obvious cold symptoms just really bad bad pain. . Admitted to hospital each time when it turned out to be pneumonia. Any chest pain is thought to be heart trouble.

I had thyroidectomy in February this year . I wonder if being hypo ( treated ) impairs the immune system?

I wonder if hypo causes sluggish lung clearing. It was mentioned a little while ago that I had mucus plugs. Physio was suggested but ,long story, not followed up.

When I was under treated on my thyroid meds and had very low levels of vit D I had repeated long lasting resistant infections such as flue lasting over a month. Have you had your thyroid level checked and if so what are they, include ranges, you need TSH, ft4 & ft3. Importantly get your vit D levels. Low vit D levels are linked to greater infections and less ability to fight them off. Your GP can check with a blood test. Look at Grassroots or the Vitamin DCouncil for more info in what levels we are best and what to take. Since correcting my vit D no more infections.....

Sorry to hear this gcart wishing you speedy recovery x

If not been done, ask GP to check levels of vitamin d, b12, folate and ferratin. These all need to at good (not just average) levels for thyroid hormones (our own or replacement ones) to work in our cells

Make sure you get the actual figures from tests (including ranges - figures in brackets). You are entitled to copies of your own results.

When you get results suggest you make a new post on here and members can offer advice on any vitamin supplements needed

If you can not get GP to do these tests, then like many of us, you can get them done privately

Usual advice on ALL thyroid tests, (home one or on NHS) is to do early in morning, ideally before 9am. No food or drink beforehand (other than water) If you are taking Levo, then don't take it in 24 hours before (take straight after). This way your tests are always consistent, and it will show highest TSH, and as this is mainly all the medics decide dose on, best idea is to keep result as high as possible

You will see, time and time again on here lots of information and advice about importance of good levels of B12, folate, ferritin and vitamin D, leaky gut and gluten connection to autoimmune Hashimoto's & Grave's too.

Thanks for getting back to me My levels were low on the test in June? I am supplementing as advised but I think I need to update the Blue H test again soon. Once I have them I will post again for advice . Always so helpful and supportive. Thanks

By the way I just purchased T3 from Greece. They cost £59 for 300 25mg

That will last me 10ish months I make that £6 per month What a bunch of **s**rds the companies are that push them in this country.

Must mention that Money Gram charged £12 for the privilege😀

Thank you Faith. I will certainly try what I am learning to maintain my immune system. Certainly don't want this more often. I am sure that taking antibiotics to cure present pneumonia isn't that good in the long run. 🙂

Found this very helpful and think I definitely get some probiotics today. I do hate taking antibiotics but they do the trick if they are the right ones. I am sitting up taking notice today 🙂 Thanks for your input.
