NDT and recent bloods

Hi can you give you opinion on wether I am medicating correctly I am taking 1. 5 grains of Thiroyd. I was taking levo 125mcg. I feel ok , just sometimes a little tired in the afternoon. My recent blood test results were. TSH 10.20 and t4 7.0 ... Levo was making me feel real bad and was struggling to function.

TSH is too high. When you're on the right dose of NDT your TSH is less than 1 in most cases. I think mine is about 0.02. Which is fine and to be expected.

Start to increase when you can. Check out the Stop The Thyroid Madness website or hypothyroid mom to get advice on how to increase. A 1/4 grain a time every 2 weeks whilst testing temp and pulse rates I believe is the advice.

Your tsh is very high?! How long have you been on ndt? It would be interesting to see your t3 level too. Definitely increase your dose and then maybe think about getting some more tests done.

I switch to NDT 4 weeks ago ... Probably not enough because the doctors told me I only needed to take 100 mcg of levo.... I switched and was taking 1 grain for the first 2weeks then increased it to 1.5 grains ... Now doctors are saying it should be 125 mcg so I've now switched to 2 grains which I split ( 1 first thing and then a 2nd around 1pm ) do you think that sounds ok or still under ... Don't really understand how the doctors forgot to tell me to increase ( it's should of been increased over 9 weeks ago ) I am just desperate to get levels right.. Also doctor wouldn't entertain a conversation on NDT and told me a whole load of horror stories and told me I shouldn't go on forums to discuss .. But I feel 80 % better already ... And these forums are a lifesaver 😀🙏

Hi

I started myself on NDT 12 weeks ago, I increased to 3 pills per day, 2 in the morning and 1 in the afternoon. I was not quite right on 3 and have now decreased to 2.5 per day. so far after only one week on the new dose I feel much better. I will now wait for another week I may have to decrease to 2 who knows. It's different for everyone just patience and tweeking and seeing how you feel. NDT is the best thing that's happened to me, and I hope you will find it OK soon. I am taking my temp which is 36.9, great.

I am feeling 75% of my old self I will be happy with 85% that's what I hope for. By the way I live in France and the Doc and Endos are the same here US.

I moved from 100 mcg levo to 1.5 grains ndt. Also, do you split your dose? I take 1 grain in the morning and half mid afternoon.

Agree yiu probably also need a dose increase

Just started an increase now to 2 grains and splitting the dose ( 1 grain first thing and another around 1pm ) fingers crossed it makes a difference X

Don't be tempted to increase too high too fast. The general rule is 1/2 grain every 2 weeks. Personally I found increasing 1/4 grain per week worked best as I tended to suffer hyper symptoms if I increased too quickly. Once you get to around the 2 grain area it's recommended to hold that dose for 6 weeks and then get blood tests done, however if you still feel undermedicated then obviously you may need to go to a slightly higher dose before holding. I started NDT in March and managed to get up to 2 grains before adrenal issues surfaced so I had to hold off increasing for a couple of months whilst I dealt with that. I have just increased to 2 3/4 this last week and think I must be near to my optimal dose. Going to get Ft3 tested again in a few weeks and see where it's at.
