Given that chlorine plays havoc with the thyroid, can I go swimming in public swimming baths???

My first reaction was, well it depends on how much of the water you're planning on drinking... ;)

But then I thought a bit harder about it and decided to have a look for what's been said in the past. Opinions are divided.

Not all public (or private!) swimming pools use chlorine.

Check with the people who operate the pool(s) you are considering.

I've had a thyroid problem all my life as it was obviously inherited. But two of my best years of health were while working as a life guard at a swimming pool. Neither the chlorine in the water, nor the stuff that we used to clean the pool surround and changing rooms appeared to have a negative affect on me.

A few visits to the swimming baths should give you your answer, and are unlikely to do any lasting harm..

Most swimming pools no longer use chlorine. Can't remember what is used instead, doesn't hurt my eyes but affects my throat . Check with the admin. at the pool you intend using

Was not aware the chlorine affected thyroid anyway.

I just came back from holiday and it was a salt water pool. I'd be devastated if I couldn't swim. It's the only form of exercise I can do as I also have a dodgy hip. Never heard this about chlorine.
