Hi Stray :) Just linking back to your earlier post so others can see what's been discussed already. healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

If you're on levothyroxine, I don't think you're on enough - most on levo feel best with their TSH below 1.0. How much are you prescribed?

I am taking 100mcg levothyroxine daily, also omeprazole for acid reflux, due to being on Diclafenic for 20 years for back pain this med was stopped about 8 years ago, probiotics because I have recurrent UTI's and Diverticulitis flare ups which means i am admitted at least once a year and put on intravenous antibiotics for a few days, then go home with a weeks supply of them, hence the probiotics. Cod liver oil for my arthritis in knees, hands and neck. im also on Ramipril for blood pressure and statins, which i am seriously going to stop taking after reading what they do to you. I still work full time as a senior care in a very busy care home and it is very stressful, but you have to carry on. I do get a woozy head and collapsed about 3 months ago as I got up one morning, arms and legs went to jelly and could not help to stop myself falling. Maybe I do need some extra vits and minerals although I do eat healthy as possible.

Doesn't matter how well you eat when you are hypo, you can still have low stomach acid, which causes nutritional deficiencies. PLUS you are taking omeprazole, which lowers your stomach acid even more.

I very much doubt you ever had high acid causing your acid reflux, the symptoms are the same for both high and low. But doctors have a knee-jerk reaction when they hear 'acid reflux' and prescribe PPIs without even considering that it could be low stomach acid.

PPIs are only meant to be short-term treatments. They should not be used long-term. So, I think you should have a serious talk with your doctor about coming off them - he really does have a happy trigger-finger when it comes to prescription drugs, doesn't he! Instead, you could try taking apple cider vinager in water and honey, before meals, to increase your acid, and help your digestion. BUT, you really need to get your vit D, vit B12, folate and ferritin tested, quickly. :)

I had food coming back up and laryngitis and my gp said if it persists it could cause throat cancer, I have tried going without it but keep getting chronic heartburn, also I get a pin point pain in my colon which my gp said could be an ulcer, he said I'm already on a med for ulcers its not worth investigating and I didn't want to go through that

Yes, but as I said, the symptoms for low stomach acid and high stomach acid are exactly the same.

Because the stomach acid is low, food is not digested, and ferments in the stomach. This causes it to rise up into the œsophagus, and what little acid there is, burns.

What you need to do is increase your acid so that the food is digested properly, not reduce the acid even further. Those PPIs are causing you so many other symptoms that you wouldn't have if you weaned off them and started taking something like Betain and peptide. Which you can buy on Amazon.

You can also get meds that act like a gel coating on top of your stomach contents and stop them "rising up". You'll need to do a web search as I can't remember the proper name. they don't stop you absorbing food or lower the acid.
