Vitamin K2 - can soy affect thyroid meds?

I have a questions about Vitamin K (Mk-7 which is from soy). I have heard that those on thyroxine are supposed to avoid soy, as it affects the function of Levo - is that true - does anyone know or have experience of this?

I want to take Vitamin D3 (I have osteoporosis), and have researched that it is best taken together with Vitamin K2. I have also read K2 can be MK-4 or MK-7, and that it's the soy (from Natto) that is in MK-7.

I am getting a bit confused as what best to take - any advice please?

clarabelle17 Yes, you are right, we Hypos should avoid all forms of 'unfermented' soy. Natto is 'fermented' soy so it's fine to take K2-MK7 from Natto :)

Are these ok for those on Thyroxine (together with D3), and how far away from thyroid meds do these need to be taken please? amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00...

clarabelle17 That is the one I am hoping to take for two reasons. One is the fact that there are only the two ingredients so you avoid all the unwanted fillers etc. The other is because I have difficulty with capsules and find softgels easier to take. However, I want to avoid soybean oil.

The Jarrows website shows it contains olive oil jarrow.com/product/241/MK-7

I have contacted Jarrows and they replied

"Thank you for your e-mail query to Jarrow Formulas. We recently changed the inactive ingredients in MK7. Currently, this product contains a base of olive oil. Given that this change was quite recent, there will still be bottles of both formulas in the inventory of online distributors, until the older formula sells out ."

So it's a case of finding someone who has this latest formula. I contacted one supplier I use sometimes, BigVits, and they replied

"I have written to Jarrow concerning this as all the stocks we have are still containing SoyBean Oil although we received new stocks from them just a couple of weeks ago. Certainly, at the present time, we do not have any of the new stock with Olive Oil."

I am waiting for another of the suppliers I use to have their new stock but that looks like being a few weeks yet, and I will ask them to check the ingredients.

So at the moment I haven't been able to obtain that particular one.

I'm not saying that the soybean oil will be a problem, just that I don't want it.

Thanks for that :-)

K2 is made from nattokinase which is fermented soy. Fermented is OK as it negates the goitrogens. It's unfermented soy (as in soy milk, fake meat, fake cheese etc) that is the problem - unless you have a sensitivity to soy itself unrelated to thyroid. However, after going through a lab, I suspect there is no recognizable soy left in the product.

Is the soybean oil in the capsules ok to take?

Hi, I buy mine from Healthspan online. It does not contain any Soy. It is the MK-7 type. It truly works because it as been slowly lowering the excess calcium in my blood. This is where the calcium goes if you don't use K2. x

I think the Healthspan tablets contain fermented chick pea powder (which could use Natto as a starter). Also they use Hypromellose (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose) as a filler, which isn't supposed to be that good...

Hi thanks, I haven't had any adverse issues with taking the Healthspan ones. My blood calcium is lowering too. Are you going to use the ones from Amazon? How about the Soybean oil? x
