Painful ankles and toes

Hi,

Among general joint pain the worst are my ankles and toes. Any idea why this would be?

I'm on 100mcg levo, both antibodies are high (TPOab and TGab) so I know I'm autoimmune.

When I'm lay in bed it's really very noticeable, is this common?

Could it be B12 ? What are your levels ? Also VitD ?

I wouldn't assume anything if I were you. My RA started in my toes and fingers. Best get a full blood count taken and see what your inflammatory markers, ESR and CRP are doing. It probably is wear and tear arthritis that relates up your Hashimoto's but if it proves to be inflammatory arthritis then it needs catching and treating early before any erosive damage occurs.

You posted results 4 days ago showing very low vitamin d, and falling folate, ferritin and lowish b12

Have you started any supplements yet. Usual advice is to start only one at a time, incase of poor reaction and to leave at least week to 10 days before adding another.

As Vit d is the lowest might be best to start with that. The vitamin d spray DLux, by Better You is good. Other usual recommendations are Solgar D3 soft gels.

I started slowly at 1000iu, increasing slowly. (But I also has low magnesium)

Others would say start at high levels. Read up or ask a seperate post just on D3.

We can't access our thyroid hormones if any of these are at low levels.

Also have you seriously considered, or started going gluten free yet?

I have been on thyroxine for 51 years from being a child and been good, but the real pain - legs, inner thighs, shins, feet, ankles and toes all began at the time I discovered my cortisol level is not optimum. Of late ive had so much pain and you say, a lot of the cramps etc kick in when I lie down, also if I sit down there are occasions when to stand up again is SO painful in my calves which is all odd, but if and when I supplement with hydrocortisone I am half expecting all this to disappear. I have an article that describes perfectly my hip legs down to the feet pain and its relation to under performing adrenals. Just another thing to think about when you are a thyroid patient. Also though must say my Vit D has been erratic too, another issue that fits with thyroid patients. We are complex people!

Hi misslissa, Try soaking your legs & feet in a hot as you can bear, bath with about 5 lbs of Epsom Salts, lie there till water gets cool. Then after towel drying legs & feet rub them with Peanut Oil then dry with kitchen paper then go to bed. Having done this at bedtime. Do this every night, or once a week which ever helps.
