Pregnant and taking THIROYD-is it safe?

Hi everyone, I have just found out that I'm 5 weeks pregnant. I currently take THIROYD from greater pharma. I have no idea if it's safe to take during pregnancy as its not supported by NHS. I've tried to contact greater pharma who make it in Thailand but they don't speak English. Has anyone taken in during pregnancy? Or can advise? I'm quite worried about possible birth defects.

I don't think anyone will be able to give you assurances that it is safe to take Thiroyd during pregnancy. You may find information about taking NDT during pregnancy on American fora like Hypothyroidmom.com, Stop the Thyroid Madness and Mary Shoman's sites.

Hypothyroid women are supposed to be referred to endocrinology when pregnancy is confirmed. UK endocrinologists tend to switch women from T3 and NDT to Levothyroxine until they are delivered.

According to this tiredthyroid.com/blog/2013/... it depends on what your dose is. Do you have your own gland, or are you completely dependent on medication? If so, then I'd make sure you're getting enough T4 for both you and the baby. Depending on your NDT dose, you may not be getting enough T4. If it were me, I would want frequent lab work throughout the pregnancy so my dose could be adjusted. And congrats, BTW!
