What Doctors Consider Beneficial treatment.

How does it make sense to replace one set of problems with another? Take levothyroxin fix your thyroid levels feel like an achy arthritic oldie. Take cytomel fix your thyroid level, nausea, heart like a mouse, high blood pressure headaches, Take hydrocortisone fix your adrenals bad/painful skin insulin change, appetite problems? Why are they so focused on thinking a lab number is beneficial? I feel like a 6 year old has used me as chemistry set. I was taking natural thyroid and good diet exercise felt great. Had adrenal crisis due to steroid treatment for allergic reaction, everything crashed. Can't get across to the Doctors that I felt Better last few years on Natural thyroid than ever. All they see are lab numbers, How do I get treatment to reflect needs for beneficial treatment?

Buy your own NDT and self-treat. You're not going to change the system.

Hi GG, where can we buy NDT? Do I need a prescription for it? Jax 💞

Thank you - will do Jax 💞

I agree with GG, doctors don't cure anything, they just 'manage' symptoms and when you end up with another set of symptoms they just think 'great' more drugs, haven't we done well.

SO TRUE! this time last year they wanted to put me on antidepressants!!! all i needed was iron and vitamin D!

I waited a long time before the medical profession had the cheek to suggest anti-depressants - but they didn't disappoint. I saw a professor in neurology and when he couldn't find the answer to my neuropathy he came to the conclusion I must be depressed. There is no money in vitamins, you can't patent them so they don't exist!!

Glad you are improving

I bless the day I discovered this forum. Learned so much and given me confidence to self treat. Had a few blips, but i dont suffer from depression like I used to, I have a few problems with anxiety, that goes back a long way, my coping mechanism is much improved. Dont get night cramps, insomnia improved. I know my body so well now that I can feel if my thyroid is getting out of synch, and how to deal with it.

Amazing!

Hello Mrs Raven, glad to hear you are much improved. If you think 'mineral deficiency' when things are not working properly, my guess is you will be on the right track. I had bad insomnia a few years back now and was told to take Calcium, Mg and Zinc. If you wake in the middle of the night it can be a blood sugar imbalance - all worth keeping in mind.

Take care

I wasnt sleeping, full stop.

Its all related in the end, tbh. Whats made thebig difference is starting T3 but getting supplements properly balanced has obviously made a big difference

hi i think the answer to your question is to self medicate...when i have the energy ill put it all down....but 2 doctors surgeries, 2 endos, a gastroenterologist and haematologist later...im self medicating.....theres a wealth of knowledge here...these guys may not be medical trained but they certainly ARE WELL informed!!! AND they have trodden that miserable road we all have.....take control and learn about your condition ( as if you don't already know right? :-0) and take the advice from people here...i certainly trust them more than any GP I've EVER seen!!

I'm finally getting better...not quite there yet but improving far more rapidly from taking the advice of the people here than any useless GP....

let us know how you get on xx

You have to find a doctor who actually thinks HOW YOU FEEL is more important than the lab numbers. They are rare, but they are out there.

Thats a pretty damning indictment of the lack of care thyroid patients get, imo.
