Hypothyroid meds - T3

I have been on Levothyroxine 100mcg now for 8 weeks. I asked the Endicrinologist to change this medication as I was suffering with a feeling of apathy and sometimes depressed. He changed my medication to Tri-iodothyronine. As it is a private prescription, it costs over £450 for 2 weeks supply, which I obviously cannot afford. I doubt my GP will prescribe this. What are the other T3 medications that I should consider?

This is why it costs so much.

Hopefully this is going to be looked into now

You buy T3 on-line. Many on this forum do. Ask someone to PM you with info. Many use Uni-Pharma which is Greek.

If you are visiting Greece on holiday you can buy without a prescription for just over a euro 😊

There's also NDT. :)

I spent year and a half self-medicating with NDT and it didn't help at all. Now I am on T3 and my condition improved drastically. You can get your own T3 you don't have to pay £450 per week!

Just concurring with the great info given above. Get your T3 from Greece (which I do) and you might also want to try NDT at some point (I use Armour Thyroid). The latter gives you T4, T3, T2 and T1 in approximately human proportions. Once you get stabilized and good info from forum like this one you can drop the expensive private doc/Endo.

Personally I would say you've not been on levo long enough to know if it's going to help, but many many people use ndt or t3 and swear by it. Though you may find you need a combination of t4 and t3. Without your test results people can't really suggest a treatment plan for you.

Whichever way you decide to go please give things time to work and for your body to adjust, you didn't get ill in just 8 weeks and you won't recover in just 8 weeks

Good luck
