So I'm off to the dr tomorrow to talk over the blood tests I posted a yesterday for comment. I am going to ask about either adding T3 or going over to NDT. I'm also thinking of asking about LDN as I'd like to get my antibodies down, though I'm not sure if its available on the nhs. I'm not expecting to come away with anything but a referral to an endo as the last time I mentioned T3 drugs the dr hadn't even heard of them. I'd be grateful for any words of wisdom on how to approach the subject of changing medication and any specifics re the drugs I might need to know to helpo me make my case. I'd also be grateful for recommendations for Endos in Se London, pref NHS but if not ones that except Bupa as I have medical insurance through work, if needs be I can ask if I can be referred to them. Thanks in advance

Debra135,

Don't expect your GP to understand the abbreviations and acronyms used on thyroid fora.

NDT is natural dessicated thyroid. Your GP may have heard of Armour, NatureThroid, WP and Erfa. They are listed in US and Canadian formularies but aren't licensed for UK use which is why they are rarely prescribed on the NHS. They can be prescribed on a named patient basis but your GP is not obliged to prescribe unlicensed drugs.

Liothyronine is the name of T3. It is listed in the British National Formulary. Some CCGs insist that an NHS endo recommends T3 before GPs prescribe.

LDN is low dose naltrexone. I think the immune suppression of antibody response may be an off label treatment of the drug.

It might be helpful to provide your GP with some printed information on Armour/NatureThroid and LDN.

Thankyou. I did give her a load of info the second time I went to see her but whether shes read any of it I wouldn't like to say. She seems to be happy to be lead by me but I'm sure that will only go as far as the standard drugs. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
