Gluten-free T3

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know of a brand of T3 that is gluten-free? Other than Mylan, Paddock, and Sigmapharm? I take it these are all UK based but the product would be for someone outside the UK.

Any help is appreciated.

I just got some Unipharma T3 from Greece. Has that got gluten in it? (sorry to high-jack your post but I guess it's related to your question!!!).

No worries. I don't know about that one either. I am actually checking for someone who is currently in Israel. She's ordered Tiromel but would like another source to back that one up.

No gluten in Uni-Pharma.

Uni-Pharma excipients: Lactose (lactose monohydrate, gelatine, starch maize), sodium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate, silicified talc (purified talc, colloidal silicon dioxide), egg yellow lake art 74675 (25mcg), and yellow lake No 6E110 (50mcg).

Sodium starch glycolate can come from wheat sources.

That does NOT mean it contains gluten, but clarity from manufacturers would be very welcome. It often comes from potatoes!

Hi Jodyel, It's early days (about 10 days) but it seems o.k. I take a half a tablet a day with 50mcg of levothyroxine and I feel much better than I did before I was diagnosed but I am not sure that I feel any better than when I was just taking the levothyroxine on its own. Still hoping the old metabolism will speed up and I'll lose some weight but at least my temperature is more normal.

I could not take the levo or the NDT. Both made me feel worse so now I am just taking T3. Seems to be going well. I've not had any weight loss yet....hoping. Wonder if eliminating the levo would help you?

Those are not UK brands. Tiromel (Turkish) and Uni-Pharma (Greek) are gluten-free but do contain lactose.

The Italian product Liotir is gluten, starch and pretty much everything else-free.

I do have a friend who vacations every year in Italy. Reckon she could get some without a prescription there?

Do remember, we in the UK are free to personally import prescription-only medicines for ourselves and our households. We are not permitted to do so for friends, or even family members who are not of the same household.

Other countries probably have different laws and regulations.

Better check them up before asking a friend to do something illegal.

(Trouble is, it would be so easy to innocently ask and only find out when things go wrong.)

Understood. And we have already discussed that. We are of the mind that it probably will not happen but can't hurt to ask. And there are other gluten-free products that may be easier for my friend to get.

We can do the same in the USA. A 90-day supply.

Excellent. Perhaps that is why it works so much better than others. I've tried one from Singapore and one from India and honestly I don't feel great on either. So trying a gluten-free might be good for me too.

How do you know where the sodium starch glycolate is sourced from? I have never been able to find an authoritative statement for that.

People who are truly gluten free often cross react with corn .... I use Uni-Pharma and the corn is possibly why it has taken me 3 years to reduce my anti-bodies whilst being GF
