Debbiecassie,

Were you having hairloss before you started Thyroid-S or did it start after you started using Thyroid-S?

Ferritin <70 is a common cause of hair shedding, as is low zinc.

Ive had it before I started supplementing ....one of the reasons why I had blood tests in the first place but I think it has got worse since NDT.I have had low iron and low ferritin hence Ive been taking iron with VIT C for about a year now.

Debbiecassie,

Hairloss can certainly get worse during the first six months of starting Levothyroxine, perhaps it is the same thing with NDT.

Have you had your thyroid antibodies tested? Ideally need to check both TPO and TG antibody levels. If one, or both are above range this means you have Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroid.

Most likely reason

a) it is the most common cause and

b) auto-immune issues run in families and you say in earlier post that there are thyroid issues in your family.

Many Hashimoto's patients have low B12, folate, ferritin AND vitamin D. have you had vitamin D level checked?

(Can get vitamin D test at City Assey in B'ham via post £28 if GP won't do it)

These vitamins/minerals can be low due to gluten issue. Many of us with Hashimoto's, find eating 100% gluten free diet can calm immune response, reduce symptoms and also lowers high antibodies.

Before going gluten free, it is good idea to ask GP to do blood test for coeliacs/gluten intolerance. The test can give false negative, so still the best way to find out (if test result is negative) is to try gluten free to see if it helps.

Wow thank you a lot to think about.Yes Mum is underactive and now sister is after Thyroid removal and then roi xx can Blue horizon do all these tests? Thanks

Blue Horizon can do all the tests but it is often cheaper to do vitamin D separately at City Assays.

If you just need vitamin D - then £28 at city assay

If want TSH, TT4, Ft4, Ft3, TPO and TG antibodies, plus B12, folate, ferratin AND Vitamin D then Blue Horizon does Thyroid plus eleven test for £99 (10% off if use PayPal at moment I think)
