Tummy troubles/gluten?

Can any other gluten free people tell me how they feel when they've been glutened? My tummy has been bloated and distended for days now and I have no clue why. I am going on holiday soon and don't want to look six months pregnant!

Also, can anyone recommend any super-strong digestive enzymes please? Thanks :-)

Have you looked at FODMAPs? They can cause bloating, along with dairy intolerance:

Glutenease is apparently good for belt and braces approach to eating out in case of accidental gluten exposure.

Magnesium citrate powder, eg Natural Calm is good for having a good clear out.

Hi Josiesmum, I have looked at your link but other than onions (which I have all the time and they never affect me ) I haven't had anything else. I am just eating as normal :-(

I'm glad you mentioned the Magnesium as I recently bought some but haven't used it. I am going to have some now-fingers crossed!

A swollen stomach can also be a potassium deficiency, so check that out too.

Hi Muffy, I eat quite a lot of bananas so hopefully that's not yet another thing I'm deficient in ;-)

There's still a chance of being potassium deficient if you have a high sodium diet.

I don't add salt to food (although I think I maybe should!) so I doubt it.

Ok, was just a thought. My stomach isn't as swollen now that I've cut out gluten and I do have far more energy. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks :-) I am in agony at the moment with the bloating and am just about to try some deglycyrrhizinated licorice. Not sure how it affects the Thyroid but at the moment I'm willing to try anything!

I'm Coeliac and when I am glutened I feel like I have the flu: achy, confused, foggy mind and all I want to do is curl up in a ball and sleep.

Lasts for up to 3 days (though thankfully I have never been 'properly' glutened ie I've never eaten real bread thinking it was GF, I've only suffered cross contamination). About 24-48 hours in I then get diarrhoea and bad tummy cramps. I have never noticed that I get bloated particularly but I probably would if I ate real bread or cake!

Hope it's over soon :)

Thanks. I've had horrendous diarrhoea today but I wasn't complaining...I just want rid of what's festering inside me! The pain has gone now but I'm still bloated :-(
