Has anyone tried it? Most if not all similar products contain adrenal powder from NZ cows, so that is nothing unusual in itself...and it does not seem extraordinarily strong either (250 mg of ACE per capsule which seems pretty standard), so what could be so special about it to justify that kind of price?

I don't know. I use Thorne's Adrenal Cortex, which is more competitively priced and a good product. It's helped my adrenal glands re-balance in the past. I'm presently experiencing adrenal exhaustion, so in the process of taking the supplement again:
