Congenital hypothyroidism in children

Hi - I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the thyroid support - liquescence? My 1 year old daughter has congenital hypothyroidism and the thyroid uptake scan revealed her thyroid gland wasn't absorbing iodine. She's been on varying doses of levothyroxine, but I'm unconvinced that this is addressing all of her needs and the NHS aren't interested in ascertaining why her thyroid gland isn't absorbing iodine.

I have since consulted a naturopath who has recommended taking Liquescence as well as probiotics and gut support instead of the levothyroxine. Does anyone have any knowledge of liquescence, its use in children, side effects and efficacy? any thoughts at all? I understand that this isn't a forum to get advice on whether to use it or not, and am therefore seeking experience or knowledge of this product.

I am sorry your little baby has congenital hypo. That must have been very difficult for you as a Mother and it is a learning phase for you. Baby is too little to tell you how she's feeling but your mother's instinct will kick in.

If I was in your shoes (I knew nothing before being diagnosed) I think it is most important your daughter has proper thyroid hormones for her brain development as well as all our metabolism, i.e. heart etc etc. There is natural dessicated thyroid hormones which provide all of the hormones a healthy body would produce.f

They are Nature-throid and WP thyroid (both hypoallergenic). Erfa, Thiroid. Armour (expensive) but all of these can be prescribed on the NHS under a 'named patient basis'. Big Pharma has done well in trying to promote levo as the 'perfect' replacement but for those on this forum, we don't  find it good.

These NDTs (for short) contain T4, T3, T2, T1 and calicitonin (very small amount but calictonin is required for our bones.

Have you been checked for your thyroid gland? If you have, get a print-out from the doctors with the ranges and post on a new question.   If not get the earliest appointment and don't eat before it but you can drink water. Don't take medications before it either. Also request B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

The pharmaceutical companies have been good at trying to get rid of NDTs first introduced in 1892 and continued safely up to the present time. Although the BTA et al make false statements (in accordance with Big Pharma's dictats) but people recovered. There were no blood tests in 1892 and they were diagnosed upon symptoms alone - people died before NDT.

Dear Shaws,

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!

From my research, they naturally do a break at 2-3 years to see if the problem is transient or not so I think we'll wait until then before trying something else as that's a year away.

In the mean time, I will push (again) for the NDT's but the paed team at the JR weren't in favour of using it when I questioned them on it.

Thank you again so much - I really appreciate your input.

Hope you have a lovely rest of the day,

Mel.

I am not suprised that they are reluctant as you will see when you read the article by a Scientist on the False Statements - just so you are aware. Of course you must also be guided by the paed unit.

I hope everything goes smoothly.

Hi bubbles, Liquescence has been discussed on here before :

without coming to any conclusions.

It's supposed to 'support' the thyroid, without giving any clue as to how it's supposed to do that. Could you not ask your naturopath exactly how it's going to help? Doesn't seem to me that lack of support is your daughter's problem. But, I'm not a doctor...
