change of diet and lack of energy

I have been sugar and wheat free for about 6 days now and feel dreadful, no energy. totally lack luster .Is this to be expected. I know I am still undermedicated on NDT and have been increasing slowly, every 6 weeks after bloods. Not due a blood test for next 3 weeks.

An obvious question to ask... Have you reduced your overall calorie intake in ditching the sugar and the wheat? If you aren't taking in enough food overall it will impact badly on your thyroid status. Too little food also reduces conversion from T4 to T3. I think it might reduce TSH as well.

A second point - sugar and wheat are both addictive. When you give them up your body really, really lets you know. Withdrawal symptoms are common.  I remember the first time I gave up gluten some years ago I felt like I had severe flu and I started eating gluten again as a result.

It was years later before I understood about the withdrawal symptoms. I've given up gluten now, and this time I persevered and I have never regretted it.

Keep going, make sure you eat enough to replace the calories you were previously eating, and be aware that lots of ready-made wheat-free and gluten-free processed foods have lots of hidden sugar. You should start feeling the benefit soon.

Good luck. :)

Thanks human bean. I have not tried to reduce calories  but am not stuffing myself with cakes and biscuits all the time which I was doing. I am still eating plenty though. I think it must be withdraw symptoms. My poor boys are home from school with me in bed, them just playing on computers. Thanks for your reply.

For traditional low carbers this is referred to as 'atkins flu', it should pass in a few days. I transitioned to Atkins while undiagnosed with hypo (one of the many attempts to stop putting on weight) and had Atkins flu for around 2 weeks but it does get better
