Hi, my daughter has been on Armour for 1 month this coming Monday, she's not feeling any different at the moment.
Starting dose was 1 grain split twice daily
after x2 weeks upped by 1/2 grain
due to up another 1/2 grain on Monday (making it x2 grains)
every 2 weeks she'll be raising by 1/2 grain monitoring BP & HR & temp and self
I've recently been reading people's posts and a lot of people are commenting that Armour isn't producing the desired effects that it used to?... and they say WP Thyroid is more pure with less fillers?
She has enough Armour for a least a month but I'm just considering if I should order the WP thyroid.
Does anyone have anything further to add to help me make my decision?
One of the on-going situations with taking NDT (natural desiccated thyroid) is that we all find which brand suits us and it varies considerably from one person to another. I know... weird ... but it is what it is.
WP is one of the NDTs with the least fillers. The WP stands for Westhroid Pure. It is a totally different NDT from Westhroid. Westhroid, for all intents and purposes, is almost identical to Naturethroid but it isn't available in the variety of dosages that Naturethroid offers. So be sure that, if WP is what you want, don't order Westhroid because it isn't the same and you might be tempted since Westhroid (if you can find it) is less expensive than WP.
All of these USA-made NDTs all have the same USP grade thyroid extract. The variations come about because of the fillers used and the manufacturing process (coating, pressure stamp etc). Your daughter may or may not do better on WP rather than the Armour. But since it is all so subjective, you won't know until she tries the WP.
It is recommended that one be tracking temps/heart rate as one increases NDT and, after 6 - 8 weeks, to have blood tests run... Free T 3, Free T 4 and TSH. Also note any symptoms and how one is feeling as one moves from one dosage to another. If hashis is suspected, antibody tests and Reverse T 3 would also be helpful.
Last June & July she tried Nutri meds but had heart palpitations which was worrying. Looking back in hindsight the side effects we're from the adrenal support which she shouldn't have taken as she had raised cortisol not low.
2 grains NDT is equivalent to 150-200mcg Levothyroxine which is prescribed to patients after thyroidectomy.
It takes time for thyroid replacement to be absorbed and metabolise before symptoms improve which is why Levothyroxine dose increases are at 6-8 week intervals. Your daughter is very probably overmedicated and has increased dose too quickly. This may be why she has a tight chest and heart pains.
Ask her to have TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested to check thyroid levels aren't too high before increasing any further. In the meantime, she could skip 2 or 3 doses and reduce dose to 1 grain to see whether she feels more comfortable.

She'll drop back to her starting dose of 1 grain per 24 hours split in 2 doses rather than upping 1/2 grain every 2 weeks and give body time to absorb.
So nice people read and resond to give us the confidence to make such changes.
