been reading up on ndt seems it can lead to adrenal fatigue, which i already have.i suspect i am hypothiroid or have hashimotos but have not been diagnosed with either and so am on no meds. i take prednisolone daily maintenance dose of 6mg . for my adrenal failure

my symptoms are high cholesterol despite being vegan,  high blood pressure,  low pottasium, pituarity probs in early years. always cold, can not lose weight, dry skin, puffy eyes, gastric probs, air hunger, itching, palpitations, yeast infections, no hair on body.

Elvera111,

I've just responded on your other post suggesting your GP investigates secondary hypothyroidism which is caused by pituitary dysfunction.  Secondary hypothyroidism is usually managed in endocrinology as further investigation is usually required to make sure there aren't sex and growth hormone deficiencies.

Your GP can test thyroid antibodies to confirm or rule out autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's).  Hashimoto's causes primary hypothyroidism, I think it is unlikely you have either.

Cholesterol and blood pressure often rise when thyroid levels are low.  They usually improve when thyroid levels are optimal.

Any thyroid replacement may cause adrenal failure if adrenal function is low but as you are supporting adrenals with prednisolone you are unlikely to have a problem whether you use Levothyroxine or NDT.

Hi,

I've had hypo symptoms since 1979, but blood tests return as normal.

I found out I had a pituitary adenoma three years ago, which led me to believe I have secondary hypo, which does is not flagged up by the usual TSH etc, tests.

I've been taking NDT since last summer, & felt much better once I'd increased the dose to one grain, then 1 1/2. I can now eat an extra 400-500 calories a day with no weight gain, but the best symptom relief has been the lack of constant bone aching cold & fatigue. My previously frequent air hunger, palpitations & terrifying fright attacks have stopped, & I now have enough energy to look after myself & eat a better diet.

I've been Vegetarian for nearly 30 years, with most of the past ten dabbling with a Vegan diet, which did me more harm than good. I relied predominantly on soya for protein, & became very deficient in vitamin D due to the use of useless vitamin D2 rather than D3.  I was diagnosed with FM, the symptoms of which overlap with hypo, & turned me into a fat doormouse, & makes me feel as though I've lost ten years. As well as the NDT, I feel much better for reintroducing organic fermented dairy as a source of B12, & making sure I get enough protein, vitamins & minerals from clean food.

I've read somwhere that the adrenals are overworked when there's insuficient thyroid hormones in the body, so a thyroid hormone supplement might help. The NDT made me gag until it started working, but disgusting as it is, I'd suggest giving it a go, or trying T3 for a few months to see if that agrees with you.

i have an internal shake when i have been talking for a while. i put it down to the extra stress on my adrenals as i get involved in a conversation. ineed to keep reminding myself to be quiet for a while..

Where did you get the idea that NDT causes adrenal fatigue?  It doesn't you have adrenal fatigue  or not.   Doctors generally believe there is no such thing as fatigue only adrenal failure.
