TSH 5.5?

Hello all,

Could someone advise please: I have been on 20mg of Carbimazole for 2years & have recently felt really ill. My GP thinks my TSH level has gone too high, but my consultant wont reduce my meds. My FT4 is 13.2 & my TSH is 5.50 which I know is considered normal. So why do I feel so ill?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Thank you

Lisa_59, your GP is right, your TSH is too high. You're feeling unwell because 20mg is making you hypothyroid. You could reduce dose to 10mg which will enable FT4 to rise and TSH to drop.

Thank you Clutter. I'm stuck as my consultant wont reduce my dose & my GP wont go against him. I take 20mg every other day & the morning after I have taken it I feel awful. I'm having an endoscopy on Weds as I have been feeling so nauseous.

Lisa_59, you could halve the dose yourself to see whether symptoms improve.
