Eat healthily. Exercise regularly. Die Anyway*

Feel compelled to remind everyone, with the news full of the fact that drinking any amount is a risk for cancer, that we must all make choices in life, some of which will be deleterious to our longevity.

So I ask you if you will to raise a glass to the fact that having a bacon sarnie is likely to cause more harm than a glass of red, according to Sky News this evening.

Only when I stopped smoking did hypothyroid present, along with the unwelcome addition of four stones in weight. Which is better for me, clean lungs or a healthy weight ?

Don’t feel too shoddy, right now. NDT and T3 appear to be working – just figuring out if I can have my bloods checked ( at my expense ) this month or next. I have attempted a none too half baked diet and lost nada. But haven’t put any weight on since I stopped taking levo.

Red wine, tonight and tomorrow night. Steak frites, asparagus and Béarnaise sauce our Saturday evening treat at Rapunzel Towers. I refuse to be cowed. That’s my choice. I hope you find the freedom to make that choice and wish you a lovely weekend.

You would be most welcome Jose. Have to bring a bottle tho' and some pudding would be good :-) Off to enjoy my Friday night thanksgiving glass right now :D

Rapunzel,

No matter what .. friday and saturday eve sees the corkscrew & a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc ... [.. we must all make choices in life ..] .. in Flower's Tower ! ! ..

Good there's no weight gain with Steak frites, asparagus and Béarnaise sauce (sounds fab).

Perhaps get iron & nutrients checked to ensure good T4-T3 conversion (= weight loss).

Freedom is choice .. or is it choice is freedom ? ? ..

Flo

Me too. I'm not bothered about a drink, but I do love my bacon sarnies. I sometimes wonder how I would be if I'd not stopped smoking. Probably 3-4 stone lighter I'm sure.

Hi Rapunzel,

I went hypothyroid when I quit smoking as well ....... Doing well on Erfa 125 mg....... Cytomel made me feel 100 yrs old..... Plus slight weight gain...... Now my weight is normal thanks to Erfa

I was reading somewhere this week that stopping smoking is a recognised trigger for the start of hashis. I wish I could remember where. It might have been Stop the Thyroid Madness. Or a journal article posted on here. There was something about how smoking suppressed auto immune response. So it's definitely no coincidence.

Mary Shomon the American patient advocate also notes this in her book Living well with hypothyroidism. Of course, my GP laughed when I suggested this.

Hi SilverAvocado,

Yep..... I learned the same thing about quitting smoking and developing thyroid disease.....

Have a good Sunday 🌏🌎🌍

I belive in all things in moderation. I wish I could lose my extra weight but if I cut calories I put on weight at an alarming rate!

And : a little of what you fancy does you good!!! :)

I thought that previous studies showed that moderate drinking was actually healthier than being teetotal. I generally don't believe most of these studies as many of them confuse correlation and causation, and don't look into other lifestyle fadctors - I mean, we are not allowed to drink, but we can spray glyphosate weedkiller, eat hormone-contaminated meat and use wifi to our political masters' hearts' content.
