Its not been confirmed that I have problem with my thyroid yet,Im having another blood test next week my gp put me on high dose of vitamin d as my levels were right down and its possible the low levels could affect the thyroid ,I have had lupus for many many years and 8 years ago was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis both of which are immune system problems,I have put on a lot of weight ,have night sweats, feel really anxious sometimes ,have difficulty sleeping some nights and often wake suddenly with a rapid heartbeat.I am on biological drugs for my RA and thank goodness they are keeping it under control .I look forward to reading some of your opinions soon.

I am curious what your "really high" dose of vitamin D is. Can you tell us the product name and the dose you take per day, please.

in reply to humanbean

the brand is HuxD3 and the dosage is 20,000iu ,I'm to take that level for 20 days then go on to 800iu.

I do think you would be better on a maintenance dose of 2500 IU's of VitD once you have completed the loading doses.

Have you been tested for Hashimotos ? As you have other auto-immune issues it is possible you have auto-immune thyroid illness too. So what did your GP test ? If it was just the TSH - then that will not tell you much. You need the full profile - TSH - FT4 - FT3 and Anti-TPO and Anti Tg. The last two are antibody tests. Labs often refuse if the TSH is in range - senseless - as Hashimotos is the most common of thyroid conditions.

You could have private testing done through Thyroid UK

Don't forget to obtain copies of all your results with ranges so you can post here in a new post for people to comment. It is your legal right to have them.

Do remember that taking VitD improves the uptake of calcium in the gut from foods - so also take VitK2. This encourages the calcium in the blood to be directed to the bones and teeth I have read. Having circulating calcium is not good.

Thanks for your quick response ,its all so new at the moment thyroid illness has not been confirmed as yet ,it was mentioned as if in passing and I noticed it on my blood test form which asked for vit d and thyroid.I know nothing about thyroid and will be asking at my next gp visit after the blood test,I expect she will order the full profile once we get the bloods back.

I have read a little about hashimotos it seems to be saying if you have one auto immune you are open to others.

Docs rarely test the FULL profile - sorry to be the bearer of bad news - but that is the case. Private Testing is available through Thyroid UK should it not happen with your GP.....
