Is 15mg Armour enough?

My endo switched me from 50mcg of synthroid to 15mg of Armour. It costs a lot more to get and I'm noticing I've been having more decent days than usual. However the day can go from decent to really bad in no time at all, wondered if I need to increase this dosage every 6 weeks as with synthroid until I feel better? I think 15 mg of Armour is a small dosage and the doctors here in America are reluctant to start any medication at a high dosage because they are basically handing out synthroid and hoping it works. Do I need to adjust my dosage according to how I'm feeling? I've been on the Armour for about 3 weeks. Also, the brain fog everyone speaks of... Does anyone else describe it as lightheadedness and dizziness? An inability to focus your vision on something? Because the dizziness and feeling in my head hasn't ever stopped since this started. I want to make sure it's normal and actually from the thyroid. Otherwise I need to make sure it's not something else causing it. Sometimes I can be driving or sitting at work and the world feels like it just gets smaller and my head is heavier and my eyes just want to close. Is that usual?

I'm sorry you're not feeling well.

On looking at the chart for conversion - I find it unbelievable you've been prescribed 15mg of Armour as it is equal to around 25mcg of levothyroxine. So he switched you from 50mcg of Levothyroxine to 25mcg! I don't doubt that this megre amount is why you're feeling awful

My guess is that your Endo knows little about treating with natural dessicated thyroid hormones and is imagining that the extremely small dose of T3 within it can possibly compensate for the loss of 25mcg of levo.

You need to look for another person who knows what to do. Too low a dose can have effects on your whole body and our heart in particular needs sufficient to pump efficiently.

Do you have a copy of your latest blood test results with the ranges that you can post for further comments from members.

Hi Funny, Armour has suddenly raised their price about triple from a few years ago. It is a natural desiccated hormone but there are others. Nature Throid sells for $28 for 100 one=grain tablets. You could cut those in half and take 1/2 grain which would last for months. As Shaws says, 1/4 gr. is hardly enough for anyone with Hashimoto's.

The dizzies bother me a little although your brain cells are probably going through some changes but your adrenal glands might not be happy.
